I mentioned a risk of disruptive snowfall as we go into the new year, again, there is significant discrepancy in modelling on the positioning of the low, could be as far north as Scotland or as far south as southern England.
Intensity dependent!
I'm getting deja vu.

We are able to see a wildfire along the NJ/NY border from space courtesy of @NOAASatellites. Some of this smoke/haze may be visible further south into NYC. Smaller fires are also faintly visible, one in central Passaic County, one in SE Orange County, one in SW Putnam County.

Inevitably there’s considerable interest in what impacts a Valencia type of rainfall event would have on the UK.

A reminder that some online snow headlines don't always reflect the reality of the current forecast.
See our latest fact check below, though there may be some chillier weather in the north later this month ⤵️

There's still some uncertainty in the track of #HurricaneKirk and how it may influence the weather across the UK mid to late next week
Each green line on this clip shows a possible track as it becomes an ex-hurricane and moves towards northwest Europe

Ex-Hurricane Kirk could bring a spell of disruptive weather for the UK from mid to late next week, however there is still a lot of uncertainty 👇

The US National Hurricane Centre has now included southern England in their forecast cone.
Worth noting that Kirk won’t be a hurricane or a tropical storm when it reaches the UK as it will have long transitioned into an extra tropical low.

#HurricaneKirk clinging on to category 4 strength at 130mph
Having far reaching affects across the N Atlantic .. large swells expected to reach E US coast by Sunday, whilst NW Europe could see wind/rain by mid next week
Meanwhile, #Leslie verging on becoming the next hurricane

Hurricane #Kirk has prospered at Category 4 strength for over 24 hours now 🌀
Kirk will live a little longer, recurving across the central Atlantic for a few days. It will then become extratropical, and may bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of western Europe by midweek.
