I realize now how this sounds. This was about McDonald’s.
I don’t care how badly you want it when you see the arch, you’re not getting it. @therealrozanov

for anyone struggling with the whole “fanfic writers don’t own their works” concept, i strongly suggest reading this legal article, which explores the blurred lines between copyright infringement, derivative works, and the rights fanfiction writers may hold over their own original contributions. there is a fundamental difference between owning the intellectual property your work is based on and holding rights to the original writing you’ve created. fanfiction writers do not own the characters or worlds they borrow, but that does not automatically mean their own creative contributions are devoid of copyright protection. the distinction matters. digitalcommons.lmu.edu/cgi/v…

its so crazy how ao3 being down for like 3 weeks could have led to people boosting writers' other socials and connecting with them elsewhere and asking them to crosspost themselves/creating webrings but that would require readerbases having maturity levels above a third grader

Putting down another artist by advertising your cheaper prices like a scab, immediately tripling the price you originally advertised to up to $500 in less than a day, then begging for kindness after a little bit of pushback

eesh. the way fan fic writers are being treated over the past few days are reminding me how my fan art kept getting yoinked in the shadowhunters fandom and they kept tagging the cast as they're reposting them. 😭I ended up losing motivation to keep drawing for SH. little respect.

there was an author who tried to use a plot from a fic writer which ended up costing them a book deal because of the ensuing lawsuit. an extremely annoying gray area we tread in that OTW works hard to protect.

it's an incredibly complicated situation that has largely gone by silently since both sides want to avoid bringing it into court. we're typically small fry so ip owners turn a blind eye as long as you aren't making loads of money. fan art remains confusing too. lol

it's a fucking race to the bottom. but we can't forget the ones who did this to us: those who back AI and profit off the labor of artists. everyone deserves a livable wage. even if they advocate against themselves lmfao

Seeing younger artists, artists my age, promoting themselves on the back of an unfair wave of hate directed at another artist already integrated into the industry and just thinking "are you guys stupid??"

lots of people dont view art as a real job cuz theyre used to the commission prices of full time students on twitter rather than professionals

AO3 is doing what every security engineer dreams of being able to do after a breach. finding evidence of a breach and getting to say “we are taking everything offline for 2-4 WEEKS to ensure it’s completely clean and do a full investigation” is unheard of with for-profit companies.
