The thugs on Britain’s streets last night tried to shriek and bully us into thinking they had a majority on their side, when the only thing they had on their side was bricks. The rest was noise. The Algerian Olympics team threw flowers in the Seine, at the point where in 1961 around 200 Algerians were drowned by French police crushing a protest against an anti-Muslim curfew.

Fascinating explanation here (in French) of that Olympic flame under the balloon. It’s in fact electric, with carefully-lit water mist which isn’t hot. So it’s not burning fossil fuel but green electricity. A very effective piece of innovation by EDF.
