The employees of id Software affected by the recent layoffs are going to be holding a rally outside of the id offices on August 18th. If you are in the Richardson area please consider attending to show your support for your favorite devs!

ID Software are organising a protest over the layoffs if anyone is keen to attend with them.
Obviously I live in NZ so there is no way I can attend, but I am sure there are many in Richardson that can.

#Xbox fans…
I said this at the release of the statement about studio size.
Cutting @idSoftware in half was an egregious mistake from @asha_shar.
I am an @Xbox guy, always will be.
But if you don’t smack them when they screw up you’re hurting them, not helping.
I said this, you didn’t listen to me, you listened to the shills.
Now listen to the developers.
You do not steward a studio like ID, like this.
ID Software's (still employed) Lead Services Programmer had some SCATHING criticisms of #Xbox following the gutting of their studio. He says:
+Impossible to make a AAA game of previous Doom standards with current employees.
+Entire important departments and disciplines at studio gone.
+Reassurances they're the same are a lie; they're half.
+Studio management given talking points on what can/can't be said.
+Reassurances are so more people don't jump ship fearing no future.
+They're not the same size as when they shipped Doom 2016, they're fewer, despite higher game production demands.
+ID Software has serious issues with how Game Pass has done.
+Poor sales is an unfair metric due to Game Pass sales cannibalisation. Game Pass means it's not the same game sales business model.
+Xbox doesn't understand art, or games or the business model.
+Nor does Xbox understand what goes into making a game.
Besides Xbox still being a disaster, the way they're moving lately has me fearing much of this is prepping more to ready studios to be divested or sold off, thus fat free and lower cost till a sale is on the cards, than it is Xbox seriously being interested in a studio like ID Software making more premium quality AAA games. We shall see.... But what a travesty either way.

A message from id

ALT a statement with the following words: A Message from id Thank you all for the support this week. While our studio was impacted, those changes were spread across teams. We still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we're known for. The team today is about the same size we were when making Doom 2016. We have always had a flat studio where everyone is a maker, and we will remain true to that philosophy moving forward. We are focused on supporting each other and the team members impacted. We’re going to keep building the great games and tech that have defined us for the past 35 years, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at QuakeCon this August.

Well, I know I promised to not touch the topic of @idSoftware and how XBOX screw them over before @QuakeCon, but I do obviously follow all info available. I see how Microsoft is trying to act like nothing unusual happend end even promote @DOOM with set of "jokes" wannabes. Really? WaDaQuak?!
But this is what resonated with me during last few days, and it is exactly what I feel inside all that time.
Andrew described, what makes this studio special and that after decade of preparations they collected top tier people both professionally and personally. It was visible in product we got and also at meet with the DEVs in Dallas last year.
There was not a single fan leaving disappointed and there was not a single member of team, that would not give you enough time - even if my mission was to get signatures for my friend - huge DOOM fan - diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer.
Entirety of team acted super cool even when they found out that I didn't finished Dark Ages and gave me shoulder tap to my decision making, as I was "asked" by my wife to spend over 400hrs in @KingdomComeRPG instead.
Legendary team.

id software news
-Two thirds of the people who developed DOOM 2016 are gone
-Many “multi-hat” devs who were integral to the team are gone
-A lot of current and previous staff don’t like the comparison to the team during DOOM 2016’s development as id had just lost a lot of talent and experienced layoffs during that time
-An ex-id staff said “I don't agree with Hugo's statement and many who were laid off were upset by those comments and saw it as viewing their contributions as insignificant to the success of our games”

Shooter historian and YouTuber Civvie 11 has joined the backlash after Microsoft’s latest cuts reportedly affected developers at id Software.
Reacting to the news, he said: “They laid off the people responsible for the decade’s most influential game.”
He was referring to DOOM (2016), arguing that the game changed the FPS genre and inspired a whole generation of modern shooters.
He also called the layoffs “insane.”
