.@ABDanielleSmith, now that we’re all assured that UCP is not a separatist party and all UCP MLAs support unity, why not have a vote in the Legislature on question #10 as requested by #ForeverCanadian? As a federalist leader, you’d want to send such a powerful message of unity.
Bob Fife on Danielle Smith telling separatists in the UCP to find another home: "Why didn't she say that at the beginning? This is somebody who has fed them, nurtured them and accommodated them, and now they're coming for her."

Chow performed better than 2023 in every ward, except 4. York Centre was really the only place where she saw a worse margin against Bradford than she did against Bailao. She ran up huge numbers in Downtown and Scarborough. Her second biggest increase was in Brad's ward.

Buddy admitting on TV that he bought the company to strip it down and screw Canadians. Should go well in court.
Cleveland-Cliffs CEO: I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company. David Cochrane: Am I understanding you correctly there? It was a defensive acquisition?

Fun fact. The Switzerlands largest supermarket, Migros, doesn’t sell alcohol or tobacco in stores, pays no dividends, caps profits by lowering prices if earnings exceeds 5%, is a cooperative with 2M+ members, and donates 1% of revenue to social projects, purely out of the founders moral philosophy.

The global response to Musk and Trump's pressure on Ukraine, accompanied by a temporary shutdown of Starshield, was swift. Here's where things stand now: 🇨🇦 CANADA The Canadian government has signed a CAD 2.3 billion contract with national satellite operator Telesat to expand its Lightspeed low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation. Lightspeed was originally developed as a commercial competitor to Starlink and OneWeb. However, the government is now funding the integration of a dedicated, secure military communications system operating in the Ka-band and has already placed an order for additional satellites with Canadian aerospace company MDA Space. 🇫🇮 FINLAND Finnish company ICEYE, a developer of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, and Nokia have announced a strategic partnership to develop sovereign LEO broadband communications systems for interested European governments. The project aims to provide European countries with a ready-made platform allowing each government to fully own and control its own satellite communications infrastructure, including encryption, without dependence on foreign providers. This concept is known as "Sovereign SatCom." 🇪🇺 EUROPEAN UNION The European Commission has moved toward awarding manufacturing contracts and increasing funding for its sovereign satellite communications network, IRIS². Airbus Defence and Space has already signed contracts in Toulouse to manufacture the first 66 LEO satellites. Thales Alenia Space has been tasked with developing specialized secure payloads for government applications. The program has been expanded to 348 satellites, with an additional €4 billion in funding. 🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA South Korea has successfully conducted its first orbital launch of the year using its domestically developed Nuri (KSLV-II) rocket from the Naro Space Center. The rocket simultaneously deployed 14 payloads, including additional satellites for the national NEONSAT constellation and several military CubeSats. 🇯🇵 JAPAN Japan has allocated approximately $1 billion in subsidies to develop a nationally controlled direct-to-device satellite network. The system is designed to allow ordinary smartphones to communicate directly with satellites during major earthquakes or military conflicts. The project involves cooperation between Rakuten and AST SpaceMobile. 🇺🇦 UKRAINE The UASAT project, an initiative by STETMAN and a consortium of partners, has successfully completed registration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Preparations are now underway for the UASAT-NANO test satellite, which will mark the first step toward creating Ukraine's own sovereign satellite constellation. 🇨🇿 CZECH REPUBLIC At the same time, agreements with the Czech Republic are being finalized for the joint development of a constellation of optical reconnaissance satellites called Suziria ("Constellation"). Ukraine is also expected to gain access to backup capacity within Europe's GOVSATCOM system. 🇩🇪 GERMANY German company Isar Aerospace successfully launched its Spectrum rocket into orbit carrying satellites on September 5. THE BIG PICTURE The brilliant strategists Elon and Donnie wanted to show us who controls the red button for satellite internet. Well, they succeeded. And in a strange way, perhaps we should thank them. Because they have reminded the entire world of one simple truth: Whoever controls your communications can control your future. And now countries around the world are working to make sure that no single billionaire — or American president — can ever hold that power over them again.

This Australian's reply to Trump's rant about “NATO not being there for America” is perfect. "Mate. You run a country with 600,000 homeless people sleeping on the street tonight. A country where 40% of adults can't cover a $400 emergency without borrowing money. A country where insulin costs more than a car payment and people are rationing it to survive. A country where medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy. A country where women are dying in hospital car parks because doctors are too scared of abortion laws to treat a miscarriage. You lock up more of your own citizens than any nation on earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. The land of the free has 2 million people in cages, and a quarter of them haven't even been convicted of anything. They're just too poor to make bail. Your life expectancy is going backwards. You're the only developed nation where that's happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba's. Your kids do active shooter drills between maths and English while you sell the gunmaker's stock to your mates. Your minimum wage hasn't moved in 15 years. You've got teachers working 2 jobs and veterans sleeping under bridges and you just spent a trillion dollars flattening a country that didn't attack you. And you’ve got a convicted felon, adjudicating raping, paedophile protecting, porn star shagging insurrectionist running the biggest dumpster fire war campaign since the Taliban in Afghanistan thanked you very much for losing again. And you're calling Greenland poorly run? Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody goes bankrupt there because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because their insurance said no. 'NATO wasn't there when we needed them." When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn't even in NATO and we still showed up. For 20 years. And you pulled out at 2am without telling anyone and left them to deal with the mess. So maybe before you start calling other countries poorly run, have a look at your own backyard, you spray-tanned aluminium siding salesman. The only thing poorly run in this picture is your f----- mouth." Credit to: Jim Keller

📺 “We reported events one-sidedly for years”: Serbian TV apologizes to viewers after Vučić's party loses the election Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) opened its news broadcast with footage of celebrations following the Student List's election victory — scenes it had failed to show the previous evening. “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said. Following the controversy, RTV's acting editor-in-chief Nenad Čačić resigned. A similar incident occurred in Hungary, where state television also apologized to viewers after Viktor Orbán's election defeat.
🎉🎉 Serbia celebrates Vučić's defeat all night — now he's warning the country about sanctions against Russia After 14 years of Aleksandar Vučić's political dominance, his bloc has lost the snap parliamentary elections. The opposition Student List, which emerged from mass anti-government protests, has claimed victory. According to preliminary figures from Ipsos and CeSID, the students secured around 53% of the vote, while Vučić's coalition received approximately 39%. The former president acknowledged defeat. He estimated that the winners could secure 135–140 seats in Serbia's 250-member parliament. But he couldn't resist issuing a warning about Russia. Vučić claimed the new government could impose sanctions on Moscow as early as March or April. Meanwhile, Belgrade and other Serbian cities celebrated the student movement's victory throughout the night, with car horns, singing, and crowds cheering in the streets. Final election results are still pending.

Another stat for the nerds: 563,124 votes were cast in total in Toronto's last regular mayoral election in 2022 (ie. not a by-election). 532,201 votes were cast for Olivia Chow alone in 2026.

Neil Young has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Donald Trump, alleging copyright infringement over the ongoing use of Young’s song “Rockin’ in the Free World” as the president’s walk-up music at midterm election rallies. The suit says the classic 1989 song is “a blistering anthem that contrasts the hollow promises of American political rhetoric with the harsh realities faced by the poor, homeless and forgotten. The lyrics pain vivid street-level portraits — a mother discarding her baby, addicts lost in despair, garbage piling in the shadows of prosperity — while the repeated chorus delivers a savage irony, celebrating freedom that clearly isn’t shared by all. In short, the song is the opposite of everything that Donald J. Trump stands for.” variety.com/2026/music/news/…
