An Ahmadi man and his son were injured in a targeted shooting in Sargodha on Saturday, 19 September, when unidentified assailants opened fire on them as they returned home.
The attack comes amid continuing anti-Ahmadi violence and hostility in the district. In 2025, three Ahmadis were killed in separate attacks because of their faith. Among them was Dr Sheikh Muhammad Mahmood, a prominent gastroenterologist who was shot dead at Fatima Hospital in Sargodha city.
Earlier this month, banners carrying messages of hatred against Ahmadis were displayed across Sargodha city to mark the anniversary of the passage of Pakistan’s Second Constitutional Amendment, which declared Ahmadis to be non-Muslims for the purposes of the Constitution.
The latest shooting has renewed concerns over the safety of Ahmadis in Sargodha and the continued climate of hostility facing the community.
UN experts have called on Pakistan to end the persecution of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, citing killings, arbitrary arrests, attacks on places of worship and restrictions on religious freedom.

Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court has left in place the 2014 ban on Ruhani Khazain, the 23-volume collected writings of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as).
Ahmadis already face criminal restrictions on identifying and practising as Muslims. The continued ban on these central religious texts further restricts their ability to practise, publish and transmit their beliefs — despite the religious freedom guaranteed by Article 20 of Pakistan’s Constitution.
