"Café" is a French word
Does anyone…(apart from those desperate to compete with the Irish language) seriously believe that Ulster Scots is anything more than a lovely dialect ?

If you need an example of how good the Scots language can be in fiction try Seamus Connolly’s Gaels. 12 short stories and all but the first one (set in Ireland) are written in Scots. @conn7492 @JohnGerardFagan @mikey7fagan

Imagine you were having a bad day at work, then suddenly 32 million people dunk on your business and they have to shut down. "oh no! someone was rude to a celebrity!"
The Brooklyn store Kelly Clarkson criticized on here yesterday has responded with a statement.

Ah'm gonnae save this.
That's garbage. Scottish poets have never "fended for themselves" as if they were bin-raking scavangers. You're English. You're not Scottish. You can't speak Scots. So take your patronising narratives and piss off.

Could they not just outsource BBC Scotland to an broadcasting organisation in Scotland. Just decide how much they want to spend on it, and write a cheque.

NEW: ‘It’s an implicit threat’. Lord Tom Watson of Palantir writes to one of its biggest critics - Labour MP @labourlewis.bsky.social - to tell him the surveillance firm is watching him.

🇬🇧 UK officials are furious after The Trump Administration secretly flew a US diplomat out of England, after authorities found child abuse materials in a raid on his London apartment. By the time British’s authorities searched his drives and found the content, the US had smuggled him out of England and back to the US, via a US Air Force base.

Engeland lijkt de zwakkere kinderen uit de data te hebben gelaten. Zie 1.4% EHC versus 5% in eigenlijke scholen. Die 410 ongematchte studenten zijn ook verdacht. Prof John Jerim denkt dat Engeland eigenlijk zeker 10 punten lager is.

Interesting view this. Did Middle English develop into Scots or was Scots developing in parallel to Middle English? Did the Northumbrian dialect of Old English just fizzle out? Or has the language in question always been distinct from the language in England.
If you are talking about Gaelic, then that's just nonsense. Middle English was the predominant language in lowland Scotland by the 1300s and that developed into Scots over the next few centuries. At the time of the Union, Gaelic was often referred to as "Irish".

Also the bit about Gaelic "often" referred to as Irish, is not entirely untrue, but in the 1791 Statistical Account of Scotland, out of 72 parishes that described the Gaelic language, not one used the erm "Irish", although three used the word "Erse" Is that enough to be "often"?

As I reach the end of the One Day Removals Special Edition Edit, I'm loving that the climax of this comedy features two cunts fighting about braining another cunt to death with a hammer next to five dead bodies. I love Aberdonians, another city might have been offended.
