a little more about wrong roses (if you feel like reading a little) i was just innocently (almost suspiciously innocently) cleaning up my studio one day when i found an old sketchbook/journal i kept in 2014. between my notes and drawings, there were pages with flowers i had pressed into them. dead, dry, crooked, fragile, wrong. around the same time, i watched a doc with francis bacon where he said that flowers could also be about death… hmm somehow, all these flowers started appearing in my head. they didn’t have a name yet. just dead flowers, my already well-known attraction to death, blood, darkness and this growing urge to let them out but while making them, i discovered that it isn’t really about death, but about taking darkness and death and putting something violently alive inside them. these flowers slowly became something very human. they’re not there just to make the room prettier. well, that too, cause i’m a sucker for beauty. but more than that, they carry violence, eroticism, obsession, exposure, horror, hedonism, rawness. also death, yes, but the kind that still has life all over it a flower can be about death. it can be about life, beauty, sex, love but it can also be about everything we do to feel alive before we die putting this collection out into the world didn’t go the way i imagined it would. but in some fucked up, ironic way, it only showed me how incredibly alive these flowers are. and it makes all the sense to me. wrong roses available on transient. 🖤
