"Putin hates people like me, certainly. But through us—in Russia, or through the revolutionaries in Ukraine or Georgia—it is you he hates: your democracy, your society, your freedoms."
"Putin will wage war. I don’t know when, but he will. And you, Europeans, will be surprised to discover that this war is aimed at you, too... You think that what is happening in Moscow has nothing to do with you—that it’s our problem. Putin hates people like me, certainly. But through us—in Russia, or through the revolutionaries in Ukraine or Georgia—it is you he hates: your democracy, your society, your freedoms. Do you think his regime is merely a threat to us? Your awakening will be brutal." Anna Politkovskaya, in Paris, 2005. She was assassinated in the lobby of her apartment building on October 7, 2006—Putin’s birthday.

"War never lets you rest."
Tired. It is all I am these days. War never lets you rest, truly rest. And we have been living it for years. And I am not talking about the physical feeling of being tired - of never really sleeping, trying to help those who need it, and generally being a normal adult in the modern world and amidst the war. No. Do you know that feeling of receiving news so bad it makes your world tilt a bit to the side for a moment? That crashes into you like a gigantic wave? It normally happens rarely. It used to happen rarely for me. Now it happens all the time. You know decisions that you have to make despite not having any acceptable option? The ones that stay with you forever in the worst way. You know that sticky, disgusting sense of fear that clutches your gut with ugly claws when someone you love is in mortal danger? What if it is almost everyone you love? All the time. Then there are constant attacks that give you different sense of fear, much sharper, almost animalistic when the explosion is close enough. It all intertwines, becoming a daily reality until you feel nothing but tired. It does not mean you give up. Yet, you think your main feelings in war would be different. Maybe terror or panic, maybe sorrow or misery. There is all of that, but an all-consuming exhaustion dominates it all. War never lets you rest.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but Russia has started openly attacking vessels in Romanian, Bulgarian, and Greek waters. This is NATO territory. Afterwards, we'll hear from the "realists" that it's Europe that's provoking a war with Russia.

Another Trump scam built in to help Putin. The US collecting billions from Ukraine for Patriot interceptors but no delivery until 2030.
A strong decision by the U.S. State Department – authorizing Ukraine’s purchase of Patriot interceptors to counter Russian ballistic missiles. Five hundred PAC-3 interceptors is a substantial number, and very soon – this winter – they COULD make for a highly effective defense package. However, it has been stipulated that deliveries may begin ONLY IN A FEW YEARS. We are asking our American partners to find a solution for the time when there is a real danger and a real need to use PAC-3 interceptors. Right now, the Russians are attacking our energy infrastructure every single day. In just these past two weeks of October, there have already been more than 30 Russian strikes on critical parts of our power grid. It is right now, even before the beginning of winter, that Putin has started carrying out his operation to attack the systems that sustain life in our cities and communities. The targets are electricity, heating, water supplies, bridges, and life in our cities in general. We did ask our American partners to provide Ukraine with a winter support package – at a rate of 100 Patriot interceptors per month. Five hundred missiles would be enough to protect our skies over the coming months – precisely when it is so important for Ukraine to be in a strong position in negotiations and for Russia NOT to succeed in breaking life in Ukrainian cities and communities. The United States, our European partners, and other partners around the world have sufficient stocks of PAC-3 interceptors in their warehouses. Providing them to Ukraine right now – in the winter of 2026–2027 – and replenishing our partners’ arsenals LATER, in THE FOLLOWING YEARS, through this production already contracted and paid for by Ukraine and our partners would be the right approach. And it is entirely feasible. We are grateful to President Trump. Importantly, we recently discussed PAC-3 interceptors with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Ukraine is grateful to the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Administration overall for granting this authorization. But we are asking for decisions that can guarantee the protection of lives not the day after tomorrow or sometime later, but at the very moment the threat is there – when Russia is killing and destroying. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine! state.gov/releases/bureau-of…

1/ Apocalyptic scenes in Samara following Ukrainian drone strikes on the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery show Donald Trump's powerlessness, say Russian warbloggers. They lament that the Ukrainians appear to be ignoring the man they once acclaimed as 'our Trumpushka'. ⬇️

"The fabricated story is designed to fuel public anger over environmental policies and undermine trust in German authorities."
Russia's Storm-1516 disinformation operations targeting Germans. The campaign is spreading fabricated claims that the German government has introduced a new “eco law” restricting how often people can flush their toilets and how long they can shower, with digital meters allegedly installed to monitor and enforce these limits. The fabricated story is designed to fuel public anger over environmental policies and undermine trust in German authorities.

In 1952, an English teacher named Cecil Dormand secretly paid for a dirt-poor 11-year-old to take a drama course. He never told him and the boy didn’t find out until decades later. By then, he was a knight, that little boy’s name was Patrick Stewart. He was born into a poor family in Mirfield, a small mill town in Yorkshire and his father came home from World War II a violent man, and he was violent toward Patrick’s mother. Young Patrick learned exactly when to step between his father’s fist and his mother. An English teacher put a copy of Shakespeare in his hand and told him to get up and perform. He never stopped and left school at 15. By 19 he was completely bald... most agencies told him he'd never make it because of that. In 1987, the LA Times called him an “unknown British Shakespearean actor” when he was cast as Captain Picard. Then he became one of the most famous faces on Earth. You’ve probably heard that part. Here’s the part you haven’t: He spent decades as a patron of Refuge, sheltering women and children from domestic violence. But he never stopped trying to understand his father. He dug up a 1940 newspaper clipping that said his dad had come home with severe shell shock. He went to France and walked the ground where his father’s unit was pinned down under bombing for hours. He learned his father had PTSD, and nobody ever helped him. So Patrick became an ambassador for Combat Stress, a charity that helps veterans. In 2013, a young woman at a Texas convention told him she was a survivor of domestic violence. He asked, “My dear, are you okay?” Then he hopped off the stage, held her, and told her: “You never have to go through that again, you’re safe now.” At Dragon Con, a Make-A-Wish girl dressed as Spock came to meet him. 2,000 people were waiting for him to speak... he sat down and talked with her for 15 minutes, making all of them wait. He told her that since they were friends now, whenever she saw him on screen she could wave and say, “Hello Patrick.” After 9/11, he felt helpless, so he brought his one-man A Christmas Carol back to Broadway for a full week of charity shows. He played every character himself and donated every cent. In 2019 he did it again, and every dollar went to feeding hungry New Yorkers. In 2017, he fostered a pit bull named Ginger, who had been rescued from a dogfighting ring. She was his first dog in more than 50 years. He couldn’t bring her home to England, so he found her a family. Then he kept fostering more. When he said he was done with Star Trek so many people told him the show had gotten them through the hardest times of their lives. So he wanted to see if Picard could do it one more time. Rest in Peace, Sir Patrick 🖖

Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery, Russia. I take it that yesterday’s latest Russian mass killing of civilians in Ukraine has finally put an end to the idiocy of “don’t strike Russia’s oil industry to show your profound gratitude to Donald Trump.”

Russian-controlled outlets are spreading a fake claim that the railway station was allegedly damaged as a result of «Ukrainian air defence operations», while also promoting conspiracy theories about a «deliberate provocation by the Kyiv regime».
⚡️ russia has launched a large-scale information operation in an attempt to justify the terrorist drone strike on the railway station in Dnipro, which killed 14 people.

To boldly go...
SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

👼2.5 years old. She didn’t make it to the shelter. Russia (Putin) killed another child in Odesa. Born in Odesa on June 23, 2023. A long-awaited child. She had just started kindergarten and loved drawing and putting together puzzles. On the night of April 6, 2026, a Russian drone hit a residential building in Odesa. Anna was killed along with her mother Daria. They didn’t manage to reach the shelter in time. This is not “collateral damage.” This is the deliberate killing of children. Eternal memory to Anechka.
