My colleague at work turns 25 tomorrow. She's lovely, new mum, recently graduated, optimistic.
Today I learnt she does not know what an encyclopedia set is!?
I feel old, but damn, we need to share more knowledge and experiences with our young folk and younger generation.

No more excuses! The Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town are working together to confront taxi violence.
I am appalled at this latest outbreak of violence in the taxi industry. I urge all law enforcement agencies to keep working together to bring the situation under control and to track down and arrest those responsible for this senseless bloodshed.
At a meeting between government and taxi organisations today, both SANTACO Western Cape and CODETA acknowledge the gravity of the situation and the urgent need to restore stability.
The following interventions are being advanced:
- Urgent engagement: A further meeting involving CATA and CODETA leadership is being arranged for early next week to address outstanding disputes and work towards a lasting resolution.
- Legal action: The department will continue its regulatory processes, including an inquiry into alleged violations by identified taxi associations and an urgent court application to clarify operating rights.
- Stronger enforcement: The City has committed to maintaining a strong law enforcement presence in affected areas and supporting the province’s legal action.
- Commuter protection: The department is exploring additional transport services should taxi operations be disrupted.
Where issues arise among taxi groupings, they must be dealt with within the confines of the law. But if taxi leaders are not prepared to negotiate peacefully, they must expect authorities to take the requisite steps to bring order and the rule of law to the taxi sector. We recognise the importance of the taxi industry in the broader public transport environment. But we will never condone violence that puts commuters and other members of the public in danger.
Our priority remains protecting lives and shielding the economy from disruptions; this must be followed by decisive action from the relevant authorities, including the Western Cape Mobility Department.

1. Water/municipal systems: already leaking R26bn/yr and 47% wastewater critical. Widespread metro collapses and health crises by 2028.
2. Skills base: 1m+ already gone, critical shortages accelerating. Tax and delivery capacity breaks around 2029.
3. Power: stable now but coal retirements create a gap. Severe loadshedding returns 2029-30 without gas and grid ready.
Years, not decades. Low growth and decay compound fast.
To think the #statecapture looting could have funded this entire project.

SA has ~592 000 km of unpaved roads (rural gravel tracks to township streets).
Upgrading to basic low-volume paved/sealed standard currently runs R1.5–5.3 million per km depending on terrain, materials and method.
Rough total: R900 billion to R3 trillion.
Cheaper stabilisation and nano-seal techniques can cut that by half in many cases, but full nationwide paving would still be a multi-decade national project.

🚨 ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!
Former Mogalakwena Municipal Manager Morris Montego Maluleka just got slapped with a "No Bail" card by the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court. The ANC tenderpreneur pipeline to Dubai has hit a massive roadblock.
The State argued Maluleka is a textbook flight risk. Why? Because while Mogalakwena residents struggle with basic service delivery, his wife and kids are casually residing in Dubai. You can’t make this up. The ultimate "Exit Strategy" package
What are the charges? The usual holy trinity of ANC governance: Fraud, Corruption, and Money Laundering. It all stems from a 2022 fleet management tender. And this is where the math gets truly "revolutionary".
In a spectacular display of municipal magic, a R4 million tender miraculously ballooned into a R24 million jackpot. That’s a casual 500% markup! Because why fix potholes or supply water when you can fund a luxury lifestyle in the desert? 🎪
When reality hit, the comrade reportedly broke down in tears in the dock. The bravery vanishes real quick when the Polokwane Correctional Facility becomes your new permanent address. No business class flights to the UAE, just a prison van.
The case is now postponed all the way to 3 November 2026. Another classic delayed-justice special. Remember this the next time a politician promises "renewal" the only thing being renewed is the inflation rate on municipal contracts! 🇿🇦
#MogalakwenaCorruption
They dismissed us in 2019 when we called out the rot, but vindication always comes out in the wash. My old account might be gone, but real ones remember how "Kwena with anger issues" explicitly detailed how the Malema name sat at the dead center of the Mogalakwena Municipality looting frenzy alongside the Mashamaite brothers.
Mogalakwena is completely collapsed. Placing it under administration or swapping mayoral faces is just moving deck chairs on the Titanic, we are practically mirroring the ghost-town reality of Emfuleni. Notice how quiet the EFF gets during community protests? Silence is expensive, and Mogalakwena is their personal bacon.
No more cheap distractions, generic search evasions, or "distant family ties" excuses. The real questions remain: Where did the millions Mpho Edward Malema received through municipality-linked companies actually land? Who built that bridge to the Municipal Manager? Was it Jabu Mashamaite? When did it start?
The Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has a historic chance to be real heroes for the betrayed people of Mogalakwena. The mandate is simple: Don't look away. Follow the money. Follow the connections. Follow the documents to the absolute bitter end. #MogalakwenaCorruption #Accountability Now!!

In 2023 Heineken bought Distell in a deal valuing the business at about R40bn. By the end of that year it had already written down R10bn on its South African operation. Today it confirmed its SA wine business, home of Nederburg and JC Le Roux, is "under strategic review".
That's how exits often start. First a review, then a sale, then a quiet goodbye.
Their beer is growing, so South Africans are still buying. The problem is a country where excise keeps climbing, illicit alcohol already makes up 18% of what's sold, and doing business gets harder every year.
Nobody has said Heineken is leaving. But if it reduces its SA exposure, the jobs at risk are jobs SA cannot afford to lose. Heineken directly employs almost 5,000 people here, and the wine industry it anchors supports over 270,000 jobs, from farmworkers to bottlers. All this at a time when official unemployment is already 33.6%.
Government should be asking why one of the world's biggest brewers is reviewing its SA bets, not waiting for the announcement.

Over R375K Raised For Pinetown Father Sidney Hill Who Shot And Killed One Of The Suspected Hijackers During A Shootout While Protecting His Young Daughter And Vehicle Outside His Home
Sidney Hill, the Pinetown father who protected his young daughter during a shootout with suspected hijackers outside his home, has received R378,000 in donations through a fundraising campaign. The amount brings the campaign closer to its R500,000 target following the incident that left one suspected hijacker fatally wounded.
Hill gained widespread attention after the confrontation, which occurred while his young daughter was with him. During the exchange of gunfire, one suspect was fatally wounded. The incident drew public interest because Hill was protecting his child during the encounter with the alleged hijackers outside their home.
The fundraising campaign aims to help cover Hill’s legal expenses and trauma counselling for his children following the incident. Donations have come from supporters in both South Africa and the United States, helping push the total to R378,000 as contributions continue towards the campaign’s stated target.
With R378,000 raised, the campaign has reached more than three-quarters of its R500,000 goal, leaving R122,000 still to be raised. The funds are intended to assist with legal costs and counselling for Hill’s children as the family deals with the aftermath of the shootout.

[WATCH] South African Municipal Workers’ Union members are marching in Braamfontein over a long-standing wage dispute with the City of Johannesburg. The gathering follows yesterday’s march on the M1 highway, which forced its closure in both directions near Smit Street and caused major traffic disruptions. The workers are calling on the city to honour wage agreements reached in 2016. @NqobileMadlala_ is following developments.
