Karnataka Govt Announces Major Bus Fare Revision: BMTC Up by 33%, KSRTC by 23%; Daily Commutes to Cost More from Midnight

Daily commutes across #Karnataka are set to become more expensive as the state government announced an across-the-board bus fare revision effective from the midnight of November 4-5. The decision impacts all four state-run road transport undertakings: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (#KSRTC), Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (#BMTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (#NWKRTC) and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (#KKRTC).
Addressing media personnel at a press briefing, the Minister Byrathi Suresh detailed the scale of the price adjustment across rural, inter-city, and urban networks."Today, we have hiked about 32 to 33 percent ticket hiking in BMTC. And rest of the three things,NWKRTC, KKRTC and KSRTC,we have hiked about 23 percent," the Minister stated.
Responding to questions from journalists regarding corporation deficits and whether the state’s zero-fare #ShaktiScheme for women had strained resources, the Minister firmly dismissed any correlation between the flagship initiative and the fare adjustment."There is a misunderstanding about the Shakti scheme. Shakti scheme is our dream this thing about our Congress party manifesto. We have promised all ladies from Karnataka, we will give the free tickets to them. So, all Shakti scheme money, government is paying to all four our nigamas," he clarified."Not only a single rupee our nigama is paying to the Shakti scheme. Full money is coming from the government, this is very clear. This is not a loss for our department; government is paying everything," he added, highlighting that the state treasury reimburses the transport corporations in phased releases.
Touching upon existing liabilities, the Minister noted that the corporations have accumulated commitments totaling around ₹9,000-odd crore. He shared that the state government has transferred ₹16,594 crore over three years, with an outstanding balance of ₹6,368 crore being disbursed in planned phases.
According to the official circular issued by the corporations, fares for ordinary non-AC services will see an increase of up to ₹9 within the first five stages, while express (Vegadoota) routes will see fares rise by up to ₹18 within ten stages.
Key Regional Route Revisions (from Bengaluru)
• Ordinary Services: Nelamangala (₹35 to ₹44), Hosakote (₹35 to ₹44), Doddaballapura (₹38 to ₹47), Anekal (₹38 to ₹47), Magadi (₹46 to ₹57), and Malur (₹46 to ₹57).
• Express (Vegadoota) Services: Kolar (₹81 to ₹100), Tumakuru (₹81 to ₹100), Mandya (₹110 to ₹136), Mysuru (₹160 to ₹197), Hassan (₹219 to ₹270), and Chikkamagaluru (₹295 to ₹363).
BMTC City Services:
•Ordinary Buses: Travel up to 2 km will see a ₹4 hike, trips between 2 km and 4 km will rise by ₹6, with a maximum cap of ₹12 for longer distances. Fares on frequent commuter stretches such as Kempegowda Bus Station to Shivajinagar have been revised from ₹12 to ₹18, while Kempegowda Bus Station to Banashankari increases from ₹23 to ₹35.
• Vajra (AC) Buses: Increases range from ₹5 for trips up to 6 km and ₹10 for journeys between 6 km and 18 km, capped at a maximum of ₹15. Routes like Central Silk Board to Hebbal will now cost ₹65 (up from ₹55), and Kempegowda Bus Station to Attibele will cost ₹70 (up from ₹60).
When asked whether daily, weekly or monthly transit passes would be spared from the hike, the Minister confirmed that pass rates are also being recalculated."Bus passes, monthly passes and weekly passes,we are going to hike by the next week. We are calculating about this," he concluded before confirming that the general fare revisions take effect immediately from midnight.

AIIMS Gorakhpur has been open for seven years without a cath lab.
Its own Executive Director had to seek care in a private hospital.
The head of an AIIMS could not trust the hospital he runs.
This is what reservation has done.
It has turned government hospitals into dumping grounds of mediocrity while the people who designed and defend this system quietly buy their way into places where merit still survives

Before discussing UCC, our long-pending demands must be addressed. Our issues should not be buried under a different political debate.
Very soon, the narrative will be shifted again to Hindu-Muslim politics. Slogans like "Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai" and "Batenge Toh Katenge" will dominate.
Don't get trapped in these distractions. Don't let emotional and divisive slogans make our real issues disappear.
