13.1 nice and slow miles this morning, as backyard ultra prep, then back and bis with my youngest (not pictured as he doesn’t like when I post pics of him). But he was there! 😂
💪
30 miles over the last 2 days. Nearly 6 hours on my feet.
Saturday- 4 separate runs throughout the day, totaling 16.93 miles, dialing in Backyard Ultra pacing and getting used to going back out when the legs would rather be done.
Sunday- 13.13 more miles on tired legs. Half marathon done before 8am.
This weekend wasn’t about speed. It was about putting in the work, building endurance, and getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
Excited for @bear_river_ultra on Nov 13.
5-ish early miles and then an upper body lift to start this Friday off!
Let’s have a great day!
@CHillRN_5
Out the door at 2:26am this morning for a 90-minute easy run, followed by pull day with rack pulls and barbell rows.
Then off to work.
Building strength and endurance. No excuses.
Some days you just get after it.
2:50 am- Hour run
5 am- Push day
Work
After work- 5K
Two runs. One lift. A full workday.
Not every day looks like this, but when they do, you just have to embrace it.
The goal isn’t to be good at one thing. It’s to see how far I can push myself at everything.
Less weight. More control. More intensity.
Slowed down the tempo, added pauses at the bottom, and made every rep count.
You don’t always need to move more weight to make an exercise harder.
This set was way harder than 4 plates on each side with normal tempo.
Make lighter weight feel heavy.
Yesterday, the day after my first marathon, I was back in the gym training arms. Going to take it easy on my legs this week, but figured it couldn’t hurt to get an arm pump.
Legs pretty vascular with all the running 😂
Huge shoutout to my wife! @CHillRN_5
Not only did she support me throughout the entire marathon journey, but she stepped up and took on a challenge of her own, completing her very first 10K!
I couldn’t be more proud of her for pushing herself and getting across that finish line.
Having her support means more than she knows, but her getting out and pushing herself made this weekend even better.
Proud of you, babe! Love you!
Now let’s plan a half marathon 😉
First marathon ✅
Officially a marathon finisher!
Felt strong for most of the race, but around mile 24 things got tough. Legs started cramping, and those final miles became a battle of simply refusing to quit.
Definitely one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, but that’s what makes it worth doing.
Got it done, first marathon ✅
May post more about it later, but right now I’m tired.
Time to recover a bit.
Tomorrow, we both step into uncharted territory!
My first marathon. Her first 10K.
A lot of hard work, early mornings, and miles have led to this moment.
She’s been my biggest supporter throughout this crazy running journey, and I couldn’t be more proud and excited to take on this challenge alongside her.
The training is done. The work has been put in. Now it’s time to show up, dig deep, and get the job done.
Let’s get after it!
@CHillRN_5
Last upper body lift of the week done.
Shakeout run tomorrow morning.
Des Moines marathon Sunday morning.
2 more days!
Des Moines Marathon in 3 days.
Naturally, I decided to destroy my chest.
3 plates ➡️2 plates ➡️1 plate.
Three trips to muscular failure in one extended set.
That’s the beauty of drop sets. When you can’t get another rep, reduce the weight and keep going. More hard reps, more approaches to failure, more stimulus, more growth.
