Monaco's going to be a $10B+ company on the back of podcasts, OOH, & memes. Whether you want to admit it or not, this is the kind of distribution the next generation of companies will need to master to stay relevant and drive traction. "Go direct" is hard to do in practice, but @samdblond and the @MonacoGTM team are nailing it. Here's Sam explaining one of their OOH experiments that he spent $60,000 on. Credits: @jaltma (Pod: Uncapped with Jack Altman)
Huge thank you to @tbpn , @johncoogan , and @jordihays for covering the massive @MonacoGTM partnership announcement today

"Nobody else is doing this" stopped being a moat. Ato shipped gen two today. @audrlo shipped Sam months before that. Same niche, two great launch videos, and I'd bet most people reading this thought this market was empty. Now it's just who's still here when one daughter tells another daughter.
Introducing Ato, your grandparent’s next computer. Over the past year, more than 2,500 older adults around the globe have used Ato in their daily lives through our beta program, and today we're taking our next step. Ato helps seniors stay independent on their own terms. It gives families a simple way to stay close and the peace of mind that comes from knowing how they’re doing, without cameras or tracking. The new Ato lives in the home, becomes part of their routine, and keeps families connected, all through a simple realtime voice interface. Millions of families are trying to help someone they love stay independent while coordinating care across relatives, caregivers, and healthcare providers. We’re building Ato into the coordination layer that brings all of them together.

The only reason I can keep up with AI is that it's adjacent to my full-time job and also my part-time job and also what I do instead of sleeping.

also, walking away from everything ungritty
If you want your company to be gritty: create a gritty culture, hire gritty people, and celebrate gritty achievements.

Peter Thiel has never been casually referenced in his life
.@sama says the best advice Peter Thiel ever gave him was to focus on what’s working. Peter was the one who convinced him to double down on ChatGPT early on: “After we launched ChatGPT, it was sort of this weird thing because people didn't really know what to use it for. It was growing super fast, but it felt very unstable, or kind of almost low-value growth.” “A lot of people in the company were like, ‘We gotta figure out something else. This is not sustainable value.’ And we were talking about this list of 5 or 6 other things that we could focus on instead.” “He was like, ‘It's an obvious mistake to do anything but this.’” “Besides the fact that it's growing, which is rare and great, and it was not growing as fast then as it did after, he's like, ‘The power of this is the power of the Google text box. It's like a text box you can type anything into, and it does the right thing.’” “He's like, ‘People have just been chasing the Google business model for 20 years and this is the first thing that's come up, and clearly the empty text box worked for Google, so why don't you just double down on that? It's growing. It's very flexible and it has all of the signs other than it doesn't fit the current Silicon Valley wisdom.’” “And I was like, ‘Okay.’ And so we went super hard on ChatGPT and it was great.”

detaching yourself from money and results is how you create asymmetric returns know where you want to go and build motion. no looking around or obsessing over whether it’s working. You can't climb while keeping the view from the bottom.
Someone who only works when they're getting paid will always lose to someone who keeps working when they're not.

Lots of dead internet tweets on my feed today. "Its all bots nothing is real". Lets us off easy dont it? Attention is cheap now cuz you made content easy to slide in without getting checked Four seconds of easy emotion and you've got me, no argument needed Did you think years of consuming slop would make us smarter? do you think the level of brainrot today wont compound? What used to be dumb and cringe and below you is just regular marketing now a few thousand people decide what youre going to talk about for the next week, month, year/s. Artists. Llms. Cities. Watches. Sunscreen. The internet isn't dead, just nothing gets here by accident now Including this

if your show has a formula, you built it for an audience that's already gone.

Your startup can survive more mistakes than you think so keep going.

everything that feels like doing it is not doing it and doing it is doing it
The reason it’s hard isn’t because it’s actually hard, but because you thought it would be easy.

Taste is downstream of doing. The win isnt doing everything by hand, its looking at what comes back and going "nah thats trash" and knowing why
I now ignore all inbound decks & pitches that are 90+% AI. Initially I was open-minded, but as the aphorism goes: how you do anything is how you do everything. If someone is sloppy or lazy with a high leverage fundraise, it's hard to build conviction on execution in other areas.

Incredible story how @travisk went from a $6 billion valuation to a $17.5 billion in 2 months: “[The investor] was like I think you could get a $6 billion valuation done right now. It was nine months after the $3.5 billion. Just take the first term sheet and make it happen.” “Now if you're a founder hearing that you're just like ‘Dude I hear you but even if the world is about to end, the best thing you can do is have alternatives and the deal will actually get done faster.’” “If you want a round to go well, and to go fast, you have to have a process. If you just go take the first term sheet getting the round done will actually take longer because there's no alternatives.” “If you don't have alternatives it gets weird… and it actually becomes highly likely that the deal just blows up.” “So I like to say I never get attached to a price. I get attached to a process.” “That process is about excellence in fundraising.” “Two months later we got a round done at a 17 and a half billion pre.” “That's my point. You’ve got to do things right. And VCs, not all but many, most, they're worried about other things.”
