when a campaign flops, what do you change first?
the offer, who you sent it to, or the email itself?
It's pretty insane the amount of growth we've experience just by engaging with our community
You can see the trendline here clearly, the less I engaged with the platform, the less growth I receive.
I think x is a game of engagement, engage with more people, provide real value and you will receive the same value back, whether it's a follow back, useful insight or a signup to your platform
I've had around 40 signups alone and 3 sales made to our platform from doing this into our site
Super excited to see what's to come!
looking to connect with founders who worry theyre not reaching enough of the right people
whats harder for you right now, finding them or getting them to reply?
i started doing outbound because i had no money. it was the easiest way i could find to make any money online
it still is. nothing else lets you reach that many people for that little spent
don't get me wrong, it's more expensive vs before - but cheaper then ads and most guerila marketing methods
before linkedin automation tools were a thing, i built my own linkedin bot with a browser automation tool
10 accounts sending about 10k invites a month. linkedin was a lot less strict about invites back then. I booked around 500 calls a month for this client
it taught me early that volume wins, as long as its going to the right people
people keep saying signals beat volume. they dont
if you only email people when a signal fires, from one linkedin account and one inbox, you wont get enough leads to grow
you need volume and signals, but you also need it aimed at the right people
we started arnie thinking we could build a competitor to clay that agents could run.
then origami, orange slice and other tools came along doing the same thing.
we were a small team, and the thing we thought would make us different was already becoming common.
so we changed direction.
we focused on the founder who wants to try outbound but still has to find and clean the leads, set up the campaign and wait for inboxes to be ready.
that can mean weeks of work before they even find out whether anyone wants their offer.
we wanted to get that setup down to minutes, with the campaign, leads and warmed inboxes ready together.
the goal was to make outbound feel closer to running ads. you know what youre spending, you can get going, and you can see what came back.
a founder should be able to find out whether their offer gets a reply without spending weeks getting ready to ask.
We're launching arnies to do this exact thing, and im excited to keep you guys updated in the progress
we book about 20 sales calls a month on autopilot using grokbot. i just check a few sample leads before each campaign goes out...
one grok bot runs it with arnies. it comes up with the campaign ideas and writes every message
here's the whole setup, step by step 👇

founder: outbound doesnt work, we tried it
me: who did you send it to?
founder: everyone
thats the problem. when you email everyone, nobody feels like it was written for them. pick one type of person first, then send a lot to them
growth team: we wrote a different email for all 14 segments
also growth team: each segment has 9 people in it
9 people isnt a test. you cant learn anything from 9 sends
you want fewer segments, and to test one thing at a time instead of everything in one go:
1. the offer angle
2. then the targeting
3. then the copy
most people test all 3 at once and learn nothing
looking to connect with founders whose biggest worry is running out of leads
how many people are you reaching out to a week?
how i split targeting now, in this order:
1. one industry. when we sold va services it was just tech companies
2. inside that, people in a specific moment. hiring, just raised, new office
3. only then, test different emails
most people start at 3
the most expensive outbound mistake: sending more emails to the wrong people
no replies, so you send more. still nothing. now you think outbound doesnt work
it was never the volume. it was who you sent it to
Ai can do genuinely everything (non-physical)
Tell me one thing it can't do right now
I would be surprised
founder: we only do signal based outbound now
me: how many signals this week?
founder: 3
me: and how many sales?
founder: still building a signal for that
3 signals a week wont get you customers. use signals to decide who to email first, but you still need to email enough people for the numbers to work
looking to connect with agency owners running cold email for clients
whats the most boring part of your week?
ai can do most of a cold email campaign now. research, lists, first drafts, sorting replies
two things a person should still check: whos on the list, and what the email says before it goes out
