HE SAID HIS FAMILY WOULD NOT LET HIM LEAVE A 22-year-old man called the police, claiming his family was abusing him and preventing him from leaving their home. When officers arrived, they found him crawling down the driveway, away from his wheelchair. A gun was lying nearby. He introduced himself as Maurice Forte and told the officers he wanted to go to jail because he had just shot someone. But what police discovered inside the house was horrifying. His grandmother, mother and pregnant sister had all been shot dead. Investigators later revealed that police had visited the family home several times over domestic disturbances. Three generations of one family had been destroyed in a single incident.

Over the years, I have learnt that the people who helped me did not necessarily have everything in life. They chose to help me despite the challenges they were facing themselves. That is why I will always be grateful to everyone who has helped me in one way or another. Never assume that the people who helped you have no problems of their own. Don't get angry or feel entitled to their help simply because they cannot help you again. Remember, they also have their own struggles and responsibilities. Your parents are responsible for taking care of you, but even when your siblings or other family members help you, remember that they are choosing to do so. It is not necessarily their responsibility. Always appreciate people who show up for you, even when they have their own battles to fight. Life is hard. Learn to be grateful at all times.
