Is the shift to digital health leaving our most vulnerable veterans behind? This question underpins new research my colleague Austin Lampros and I recently published in Public Health Reports. In this study, we examined national survey data to better understand trends in technology access among veterans who have experienced homelessness. While we found modest increases in smartphone ownership, computer access, and internet use, important gaps remain. A substantial proportion of homeless-experienced veterans still do not own smartphones or computers or use the internet at all. Our findings highlight the importance of continued efforts to ensure that vulnerable populations are not left behind as services become more technology driven.
