Puerto Rico remains trapped in decades-long crises of power outages, water shortages, displacement, and housing instability.
Democrat @repdeliaramirez says Trump and the island’s governor are to blame for the latest problems.
Rep. Ramirez Attacks Congress as Puerto Ricans Face Water Shortages

It is beyond unacceptable that underinvestment and political neglect at the federal and local levels have left almost 40,000 Puerto Ricans in the archipelago without access to clean, potable water. And it is expected that at least 27,000 will have to wait until Friday to regain water access.
For years, there has been a worsening infrastructure crisis in Puerto Rico. The status quo cannot be tolerated. From Chicago to Flint to Puerto Rico and everywhere in between, access to water is not negotiable.
We must act to ensure justice for our communities.

For years, Puerto Ricans in Humboldt Park, my neighbors, have organized to end the unacceptable colonial status of Puerto Rico. We are clear that any legislation that attempts to address the future of the archipelago by reinforcing colonialism betrays Puerto Ricans and every person committed to ending the long-standing imperialism of the United States.
As we approach July 4th, we must affirm the fundamental freedom that was sought, but has been continuously denied to so many: No kings, NO COLONIES.
A status bill that includes colonialism as an option is not decolonization.
@RepAOC & I oppose the Resident Commissioner's legislation & will keep fighting for real self-determination for Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico's colonial status is a stain on our history. It must end.

DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that when the U.S. invaded Puerto Rico in 1898, Americans made it illegal for children to miss class on 3 Kings Day? It wasn’t until 1931 that the national holiday was restored. #ThreeKingsDay

Puerto Ricans fought to get the military out of Vieques to protect their health and environment. I am deeply alarmed by the reports of DoD’s renewed military presence in Vieques.
I joined @NydiaVelazquez to demand answers from Defense Secretary Hegseth on the military operations. The people of Puerto Rico deserve transparency and accountability.

Chicago alderperson: I went over to the hospital and I simply asked the ICE agents if they had a signed judicial warrant for the individual that they were trying to detain inside of the emergency room. No one was harassing the ICE agents. In fact, the only person harassed in that situation was me. I was handcuffed and shoved twice up against the wall for simply exercising my right to advocate for my constituents.

What happened to Alderperson Fuentes today at a Humboldt Park emergency room is unacceptable. Hospitals should be safe for all — free from fear, intimidation, and ICE. No one should have to choose between care and safety. We need the Sensitive Locations Act. This must STOP.

I stand with Alderperson Fuentes and with all those who have the courage to stand up to authoritarianism and their terror force, ICE.
We must defund ICE. We must hold Trump, Noem, and ICE accountable.

BREAKING — #Power4PuertoRico Statement: “Alderperson Jessie Fuentes today was subjected to state-sponsored physical violence and arrest without a warrant or justification at the hands of ICE agents. Her crime? Standing at a health facility in Chicago, where she was concerned over ICE conducting raids. This is outrageous.
“Alder Fuentes has stood up against injustice against any community and her advocacy alongside our coalition has been key in advancing the defense of the Puerto Rican people.
“We urge all Puerto Ricans to continue standing up for our fellow immigrants, as our people have a strong tradition and track record of doing. We are all immigrants. Documented or not.”
