a few weeks ago, Nest turned 15 and the iPod turned 25. a lot of the old crew behind both ended up back under one roof. within minutes, no time had passed. same stories, same debates, and a few battle scars that are much funnier now. i'd joined nest to build the services around the thermostat. i left convinced that nothing around the device is secondary - the app, setup, subscriptions, support articles, unboxing, packaging - people experience all of it as one product. the reunion wasn't really about product lessons. it was about seeing the people who shaped how I build, argue, care about details and refuse to ship something merely acceptable. those years were intense, occasionally absurd and an incredible gift. 15 years later, these products are part of history. the lesson still holds: every detail matters, but it takes a room full pf people who care that much. being back with them felt like coming home. grateful to @tfadell and @MattLRogers for bringing so many of us back together.

Critical PHP vulnerabilities to be disclosed tomorrow: php.net/archive/2026.php. We're working directly with the PHP Foundation to get patched PHP versions into our base images for Laravel Cloud, Forge, and Vapor ASAP. You may need to redeploy your apps at that time to use these patched versions, but we're also working on the ability to silently patch applications without needing a redeployment. All customers have been emailed and we will be providing further updates via email as the situation evolves.

PHP Remote Code Execution (CVE-2026-109618 & CVE-2026-109619) Information about two new remote code execution (RCE) vulnerabilities in PHP, tracked as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 (CVSS v3.1 10 / 10), has leaked ahead of their coordinated disclosure, and security firm Watchtowr Labs confirmed that the flaws are real. Both vulnerabilities are due to be disclosed on Thursday, October 22, alongside patches. Until those advisories land, no fix is available, which leaves the flaws as zero-days in PHP installations everywhere. There is currently a scheduled release of an advisement and possible patch on Wednesday, October 21 2026 at 14:00 UTC. Below is a video of a researcher, maybe the original researcher, showcasing the exploits. #CTI #BlueTeam #ThreatIntel #CVE-2026-109618 #CVE-2026-109619

This is the AI we want datacenters for...
Today @inductive_bio is launching Beacon-2, which can predict human dose directly from chemical structure. A dirty secret of AI for drug discovery is that most systems optimize the wrong reward, making them near useless in practice. Human dose is the right reward – it’s what every drug program is already optimizing. Making it computable will unlock the real-world impact of agentic drug discovery. Beacon-2 builds on our Beacon-1 models that beat 750+ competitors to win all three OpenADMET blind challenges. Whereas Beacon-1 provided a suite of models for individual molecular properties, Beacon-2 is a single system that predicts human dose end-to-end. It has three configurable modules: an ADMET-PK foundation model, a potency module that can use our fine-tunable co-folding affinity model or physics-based methods like FEP, and a PK/PD model with physiologically-informed mechanistic models of pharmacokinetics. We share validation results from Beacon-2 in a blog we are releasing today. We show that across 20 real-world drug programs running through Inductive, dose predictions from Beacon-2 agree with those from experimental data with a Spearman’s ρ of 0.61. And in a similar study on 325 publicly available compounds from the ExpansionRx OpenADMET competition, we show a Spearman ρ of 0.79. As a proof-of-concept, we gave Beacon-2 to Indy, our medicinal chemistry agent, which used it over 5 autonomous design cycles on a recently disclosed SARS-CoV-2 program to cut predicted human dose 17x, which can be the difference between a drug program that gets killed and that makes it to clinical trials. We compared the compounds that Indy designed using Beacon-2 against compounds from an optimization loop that used a potency-only reward function. The Beacon-2 compounds were favorable across three independent measures: they were preferred by chemists in blinded comparisons 87% of the time; were more druglike according to QED; and had a lower projected dose when computed by alternate methods relying on in vivo rat models and allometric scaling. Based on these encouraging results, we are now running prospective studies where compounds optimized by Beacon-2 will be validated in the lab. Read the full post here: inductive.bio/news/beacon-2 At Inductive, our long-term goal is to build superhuman chemical intelligence, and by completing the reward function for autonomous drug discovery, Beacon-2 is an exciting step toward that goal. Reach out if you’d like to get involved.

After years of Dexcom usage with g5 and g6 I finally had the g6 ripped from my hands by @dexcom suspending production. My first g7 is warming up now and I can already tell it's a massive regression. I hate it. We can't ever have nice things.

I'm betting that in a large part of crypto pullback is due to the outsized size of spacex and anthropic IPO. It's a liquidity reservoir that's needed to fill in these IPOs. But afterwards... That money is gonna want to move again.

🚨A HACKER GROUP JUST STOLE 4,000 OF GITHUB'S OWN PRIVATE REPOSITORIES.. PUT THEM UP FOR SALE FOR $50,000.. AND THE WAY THEY GOT IN IS THE SCARIEST PART.. They didn't hack GitHub's servers.. They poisoned a VS Code extension.. One GitHub employee installed it.. And the attackers walked through the front door using the employee's own credentials.. The group calls themselves TeamPCP.. They name their malware after the sandworms from Dune.. And they've been running the most sophisticated supply chain attack campaign in cybersecurity history.. Here's how the whole thing unfolded.. In March.. They poisoned Trivy.. One of the most trusted security scanners in the world.. Used by over 10,000 development workflows globally.. They injected credential-stealing malware into Trivy's official GitHub Action.. The malware ran silently BEFORE the security scan.. So every log showed "scan completed successfully" while the malware was stealing AWS keys, SSH credentials, database passwords, and Kubernetes tokens in the background.. It took Aqua Security 5 days to fully remove them.. Using the stolen credentials.. They breached Cisco Systems.. Cloned over 300 private repositories.. Including source code for unreleased AI products.. And repositories belonging to Cisco's customers.. Major banks.. Government agencies.. BPO firms.. In April.. They hit Checkmarx.. Another security vendor.. Poisoned 5 official Docker images in 83 minutes.. The scanner worked perfectly.. It just silently sent all your secrets to the attackers.. That automatically cascaded into Bitwarden.. The password manager.. Their CI/CD system pulled the poisoned Docker image.. And the attackers injected malware into Bitwarden's official CLI package published on npm.. One compromised security scanner poisoned a password manager.. Automatically.. No human involved.. In May.. They hit TanStack.. Libraries downloaded millions of times per week.. 84 malicious package versions across 42 packages.. And here's the terrifying part.. The malware scraped the raw memory of GitHub's build servers.. Extracted authentication tokens.. Used those tokens to bypass two-factor authentication.. And then published the infected packages with completely valid cryptographic signatures.. Every security verification tool on earth said the packages were legitimate.. Because they were signed by the real pipeline.. Using real keys.. The attackers just happened to be inside the pipeline when it signed.. They defeated the entire trust model of modern software supply chains.. The same week they hit the Nx Console VS Code extension.. 2.2 million installations.. The malware specifically targeted Claude Code configurations.. Hunting for AI assistant credentials.. That's a first.. Supply chain malware designed to steal your AI's access keys.. Then on May 19.. They revealed the GitHub breach.. 4,000 internal repositories.. Listed for sale at $50,000.. With a warning.. "If nobody buys it.. We leak everything for free".. Their malware is self-propagating.. Once it infects one package.. It automatically finds every other package that developer maintains.. Steals the publish tokens.. And infects all of them.. Then those packages infect the next developer.. And the next.. It jumps between npm and PyPI automatically.. The group doesn't even do the extortion themselves.. They sell stolen credentials to ransomware gangs.. One gang used TeamPCP's data to threaten Cisco with leaking FBI and NASA personnel records.. And the scariest part of all.. They didn't break any encryption.. They didn't find any zero-days.. They exploited the fact that the entire software industry blindly trusts its own build tools.. Every security scanner.. Every Docker image.. Every VS Code extension.. Every GitHub Action.. Is a potential weapon if someone poisons it upstream.. And right now.. Nobody can tell the difference between a legitimate build and a compromised one.. Because the compromised ones have valid signatures too.
We are investigating unauthorized access to GitHub’s internal repositories. While we currently have no evidence of impact to customer information stored outside of GitHub’s internal repositories (such as our customers’ enterprises, organizations, and repositories), we are closely monitoring our infrastructure for follow-on activity.

I really think Iran wants us to invade. They want to kill Americans and the best way is for them to walk into the drone kill zones. I'm not at all convinced the US has really taken the lessons from Ukraine that it should. This conflict is going to be very very different from Iraq or Afghanistan. And not in a good way. I feel very sad about the brave troops headed out there. I pray that I'm misguided, but I fear I'm not.

Am I the only one that noticed the USS Tripoli was expected in theater around the end of the week? Like... About 5 days from now? Curious timing.
