"Humanity is now standing at a crossroads. And when we look back at this crucial time, we want to say we did everything we could to push the world in the right direction." - Greta Thunberg

Funny how Searchlight, whose whole deal is (ostensibly) getting Dems to be a supermajority, went all in on permitting reform, which lands on the wrong side of multiple supermajority issues (public lands, clean air/water, data centers).
Maybe just ignore these guys from now on?

Who do you trust: fossil fuel industry-funded think tanks or the nation's leading climate advocates? I know who I'm going with.
.@JaneAFlegal, Iโm sorry, but @NRDCโs team of litigators completely agree with @johnpodesta and the threat the permitting bill is to iconic places across the U.S. Hereโs why:

Analytically, it doesn't speak highly of the BAAJA proponents' strategy if they couldn't get Podesta on board at the outset, given that he has long clashed with conservation groups on this very issue.
Jason Rylander ๐โฎ๏ธ๐๏ธ retweeted
The Bill enable new natural gas pipelines to be built to expand existing capacity without any environmental review ๐ , and it doesnโt mandate that data centers connect themselves to the grid.
BAAJA helps data centers, which is why Big Tech supports the bill.
People keep saying the permitting bill helps data centers, but if you read the bill it's just not true.
The permitting bill requires data centers to pay for all costs they impose on the grid - so Americans' bills won't go up because of big tech.
It also empowers states to charge data centers extra, require data centers to bring their own power, require data centers to power down during peak demand time, and to treat data centers less favorably than other large industrial customers.
This is in contrast to other bills like the "Ratepayer Protection Act," which was voluntary.
NRDC is listening to scientists, who will uniformly tell you that increasing oil and gas production is bad for climate and must be phased out. That's the policy analysis that matters.
Replying to @StefFeldman
I don't think Aidan is a shill for oil and gas either, but I think treating increased oil and gas production as per se bad for America โ as the NRDC does โ is terrible policy analysis!

Is the narrative that NEPA is a major factor in delaying renewable energy projects complete bunk?
Replying to @JBSDC
Except the data on "NEPA delays are the problem" doesn't pan out at all. Ruple/Adelman/Pleune took that claim out back and shot it once and for all this year.

NEPA in many ways is like FOIA, it constrains the government from acting in the shadows. The gutting of the law will make it much harder for Americans to know what their government is doing.

The good, the bad, and the ugly of the permitting bill from the view of @NRDC's experts. This isn't comprehensive but we cover a lot. The TL:DR - the transmission stuff is REALLY good, but we have deep concerns about other elements of the bill and want to see changes. nrdc.org/media/nrdc-assessmeโฆ

Maybe it's not the time to cut regulations that would make natural gas infrastructure expansion even easier?

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans.
These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.
Jason Rylander ๐โฎ๏ธ๐๏ธ retweeted
What it changes is it takes away the tools local communities have to protect their land, preserve wildlife, and block dangerous fossil fuel projects. In exchange forโฆclean energy stuff that Trump will still absolutely kill. Even mods like Podesta are saying itโs a rotten deal.

Alex Pretti's father: Our son was shot and killed by the government, federal immigration agents, on January 24th, 2026. We learned about his death from the media as we saw him being shot repeatedly in the back after helping a woman from his community. This was not a protest that Alex was at. His hands were in the air, and his face was on the ground when he was executed by ICE agents. We know exactly what our eyes saw. No one from the federal government called us on that day. But they did go on TV to tell lies about Alex. No one has called us since. No one has recanted those lies.

Weakening our ability to restrict methane emissions is not only bad for the environment โ itโs bad for business. Most U.S. producers have already adopted methane-reduction tech, giving them a real edge in global markets where responsibly sourced gas is in demand. Rolling back the rules rewards the least efficient, least responsible polluters and puts that edge at risk.
We can and should back American industry and protect its competitive advantage without gutting environmental protections.
Breaking News: The Trump administration is set to relax rules restricting the emission of methane, a gas considered to be a โsuper pollutant.โ nyti.ms/3WP2qaG

Abundance and permitting bro legislative strategy:
Step one: declare clearly flawed bill perfect & inevitable.

I would love one day for the opportunity to interview or debate Bret Stephens. He says so much nonsense with so much confidence. The whataboutism is here is pathetic.
Is the interior minister of Japan daily bragging about mass murder and ethnic murder and making foreign mothers cry?
Is the interior minister of Japan receiving billions of dollars in US military aid?
Is the interior minister of Japan's government being investigated by the ICJ for genocide and wanted at the ICC for war crimes?
Are we in a war alongside Japan right now?
Do US politicians, both GOP and Dem, declare they entered politics to defend Japan or have dreams about Japan?
I could keep going...
