“How much more free time do you really think you should have?” Capitalism has people thinking “free time” in life is a gift from the bosses & life should mainly be spent in service to corporate profits

This is a five alarm fire.
SB 63 — which would criminalize bail funds in Georgia — passed the Senate today. The bill would make bailing more than 3 people out of jail per YEAR a crime for bail funds and nonprofits. It also increases the number of non-bail-eligible offenses. atlpresscollective.com/2024/…

Happy to get this recommendation. I authored a chapter in this book called "The Question of a Franco-American Revival" about the recent flurry of activity and revival of interest in the Québécois/Acadian descendants in New England. Oui, il existe également une version française.

Affirmative action was never a complete answer in the drive towards a more just society. But for generations of students who had been systematically excluded from most of America’s key institutions—it gave us the chance to show we more than deserved a seat at the table. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision, it’s time to redouble our efforts.
I wanted to share some of my thoughts on today's Supreme Court decision on affirmative action:

Holy shit.
In Justice Alito’s draft opinion reversing Roe, he writes about “an unbroken tradition of prohibiting abortion on pain of criminal punishment,” up until Roe in 1973. He cites, as historical authority, Sir Matthew Hale. Let me tell you about Hale & his views toward women. THREAD

Here's a daily reminder: if you don't support Medicare for All—you want disabled & poor people to die. If ur asking "how are we going to pay for it?"—you want disabled & poor people to die. If you bet M4A won't happen—you want disabled & poor ppl to die. ift.tt/Owv09UM

Anyone else feeling kind of riled by the tidal wave of tech bros having an epiphany that design systems are about people? Meanwhile the rest of us have been building communities and writing docs for days as they gazed lovingly into the eyes of their component libraries…

You want to thank Black women? Cancel student debt -- all of it. Black women carry more student debt than any other group in America. Save your words of appreciation. Policy is our love language.

Seriously— if they’ve already decided they won’t object to the certification anymore, if they’ve altered the procedure now to be a single vote, what the f are they doing right now if they aren’t directly addressing what just transpired at Trump’s hand? nitter.gq/BreeNewso…

Disabled people are well aware that we are not included in most emergency plans. It's regularly discussed that active shooter drills leave disabled kids somewhere hopefully hidden while everyone else is evacuated or defended. Even at that level, @SenDuckworth had to be *lucky*.

Coming back to this video. Why wasn't each person arrested immediately upon leaving? Honest question: I'm not looking for snarky replies here. I can't understand. Not enough police? Worried about prison C19 outbreaks? What?
