Nothing makes a doctor happy like a lab result confirming what he suspects. This was a csf sample I worked on today. Doctor was questioning cryptococal meningitis. Images are Gram stain slide and csf cell count slides. We are now one step close to definitive diagnosis

I see what you are passing through in microbiology lab. You can't use only BA , Choc and one type of incubator that is not always on to appreciate the beauty of microbiology. Not possible. You are extremely limited to staph spp and coliform. You are not a magician.

If you shit and dont flush, the shit will remain there. That shi(t) is shi gella ( Shigella). Shi(t)gella is non motile bacteria. Seen Salmon fish? Meanders everywhere!! Salmon is salmonella, very motile bacteria! Learn by association if you can.

One of my distant relatives was crippled. Zero motility-if you like, say mobility His name was Caleb. Kleb. I mean "K leb" Klebsiella So Klebsiella is bacteria with zero motility. Learn by association. If I ask you to name one immotile bacteria, you now know one๐Ÿค—

To appreciate what doctors, nurses, radiographers, physiotherapists do, you need to meet them at the point of their duty. You will see that individually, we are a fraction of a whole. You may not stand d pressure of a nurse, or the consequences a doctors decision- Vice versa

If your anitbiotic sensitivity testing is purely manual , you MUST pay attention to the colonies you pick. Some of the multiresistance results are due to mixed growth of different bacteria of different antibiogram profile. An automatic system will flag it inconsistence.

Eventhough MALDI has made bactetial identification simple and straighforward, someone us have not actually seen physically where X and V factors are used in a medical lab for bacterial identification. But ask us about Haemophilus influenzae, we will not fail to mention it!

I dont need doctors when I do culture and sensitivities in the lab. I already know the drugs I will prescribe to my patients I also believe that medlab technicians are taking over my jobs . ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ It doesnt work that way!!

When in doubts, quickly do Gram on wetprep. It will save you time and resources. Image A is chrome agar for identification of VRE. Image B is a Gram stain of A. The Gram show the organism is far from bacteria, let alone VRE. Case closed. Result released.

I have an answer for you. 1 Go to Nigeria hopstal and check how the lab and lab scientists are treated. 2 Some doctors here on X who on daily basis say they can diagnose through clinical history alone are people who work in our hospitals. Remeber this

There is a reason I do not engage this kind of take directly. This person didnt mention the kind of test he or she did. Does not know the normal TAT. Didn't say if the test was marked urgent. But here ,it lack of urgency from medlab scientist or lack of resources.

Always rember, there is NO standard hospital anywere without powerful laboratory and medlab scientists. When you see someone talk down on the importance of lab and lab scientists, remember there is olodo uprsing even in medicine especially in 234
