It’s homecoming week! A good time to announce we will be hosting a Baseball and Softball Alumni Game! It’s going to be a fun day back on campus for our former players. Both games will be slow pitch softball to accommodate all skill levels! Get signed up to play!

Can confirm. Once you start talking about winning and losing, kids start to internalize fear. Do the cliches instead (focus on execution, on this pitch, on playing catch).

As an Athletic Director, you better learn quickly that if you don’t understand your school’s foundation is academics, you will constantly face internal struggles with teachers and other administrators.
At the same time, the best schools also understand that athletics is the front porch of the school. It is often the first thing prospective families see and experience.
When schools intentionally invest in both academics and athletics, everyone benefits. Strong academics build the mission of the school, while strong athletic programs build community, school pride, visibility, and relationships that extend far beyond the playing field.
The schools that truly excel are the ones that stop viewing academics and athletics as competing priorities and instead recognize that they are partners in creating an exceptional student experience.
Great schools don’t choose one over the other. They commit to both.

JUST IN: Mississippi State lands another reliever out of the portal as Memphis closer Carson Fair tells @State_1878 he is transferring to State.
After garnering 10 saves with the Tigers, he brings that experience to MSU.
"The last three outs are mine and I want to do whatever it takes to get this program back to Omaha to come up in that moment.” state1878.com/memphis-closer…

Year 1 (school year) is done in Dyersburg. Can’t wait to keep presenting showcasing this college athletics program, community, and athletes!
Here’s a few of my favorites from the season. (That I actually have saved)

Saying stuff just to say stuff. Coaching is timing. Know when to say it and when to shhhhhhh.

The constant barrage of “let it travel” “wait on it” “stay back” must cease.

Swing at strikes, take balls. Don’t chase the zone. Congrats… you are now one of the best hitting coaches on the planet. Shut up, throw the BP, watch, and shut up some more. Good hitters have a shot of organizing things if you give them a chance.

3rd base coach:
“Let’s go! Get a good pitch to hit!”
1st base coach:
“Let the ball travel!”
Dad:
“Remember to keep your weight back!”
Grandpa:
“Get that runner over!”
Little bro:
“Hit a bomb!”
Dugout:
“Don’t lunge!”
“Stay thru the baseball!”
“Stay short to the ball!”
“Watch for the 1st pitch curveball!”
“Sit fastball!”
Hitter thoughts:
You gotta block out the noise, have extreme focus, control the pressure and anxiety, have your plan and compete.
Just writing this gave me anxiety, imagine what that young ballplayer is going through in the moment the next time you want to start barking out instructions on how to hit! 🤐

I had a conversation with a Power 4 college coach who’s been doing this for 25+ years.
We were talking about the mentality of high school players during the recruiting process.
Here’s what he told me:
“What these kids don’t realize is…
I don’t care how many followers you have.
I don’t care how many home runs you hit in travel ball.
I don’t care how many offers you have.
I don’t care about your ranking.
I don’t care how hard you can hit a ball.
I don’t care about your metrics.
The only thing I care about is this:
Are you going to produce in between those white lines when we play this season?”
Then he said something else that hit:
“They’ve been so protected that the first time they fail, they quit… or they transfer.”
And here’s the part that matters.
The biggest development mistake I see?
Players don’t plan for failure.
They plan for success.
They visualize success.
They expect success.
But they don’t prepare for 0-4.
They don’t prepare for getting booed.
They don’t prepare for sitting the bench.
They don’t prepare for struggling for 3 weeks.
So when it happens — and it will — they panic.
Instead of executing a pre-made plan, they try to create one while emotional.
That never works.
Failure is coming.
The question is:
Did you already decide how you’re going to handle it?
MDCC just got a lot better! Congrats Beezy! @michael_bianco1
