Georgia nurse: We were the only labor and delivery unit in four counties. After Donald Trump cut Medicaid, we were forced to shut down. Mike Collins voted for Trump’s Medicaid cuts. We were devastated, because we know some of these babies won't make it. I reached out, and Mike Collins essentially told me that Donald Trump's plan was more important than these women and babies. I'm a registered Republican, but I'm voting for Jon Ossoff. He's always fighting to protect women and children.

This was a plausible theory among McConnell allies at the time; he still had a lot of juice then. Could his conviction vote win 10 Republicans? It’s at least plausible. If so the Senate could have barred Trump from running again. McConnell voted to acquit and the rest is history.
