Tweetbot has been around for over 10 years, we've always complied with the Twitter API rules. If there's some existing rule that we need to comply with, we'd be happy to do so, if possible. But we do need to know what it is... @TwitterDev, you know how to reach us.
Twitter is enforcing its long-standing API rules. That may result in some apps not working.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Currently it's all major third party clients not some. Also, it is unknown what long standing rules have been broken as no guidance has been provided to any API partner. And as the tweet notes, these rules have not changed. 9to5mac.com/2023/01/17/twi… developer.twitter.com/en/developer-t….

The third-party client ban and the appalling lack of communication around it is the last straw for me. I’m done here. macstories.net/stories/twitt…

I would eat somebody’s leg to only have one 60m team meeting per week. (Not MINE, of course.)
Here's how I used to run our weekly team meeting while I was at Uber. I tried to cut down on as many meetings as possible. I found that this meeting: about 45-60 minutes/week was key to everyone being on the same page. And for engineers to be aware of business & product.
Ooh, this is hot. Basically a suped-up implementation of Markdown slides. The only question is whether the code-snippet support is any good.

Ha, I did not know about the “trait” thing. Lots of copying Scala’s homework early on, I see. (For good reason!)

1️⃣1️⃣Remember when we had a teapot as our first logo? 🫖 Back then we also had tuples, did not distinguish between annotations and keywords, and called interfaces “traits”. 👴🏼👵🏻 #walkdownmemorylane
As long as I’m tweetering, I feel like I should mention that I’m also on the elephant site: @jmccance@mastodon.social This weekend’s project might be figuring out cross-posting.
I do think some kind of paid tier for Twitter makes sense, but I think a LOT of real users would drop off even at $1/mo. The reluctance most people have about setting up any sort of recurring payment is just too high, regardless of the cost.
To which I offer a radical counter-proposal: How about making Twitter's users into customers not product! tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/…

I also think the zero-posts/five-follows free tier wouldn’t be enough for folks to get engaged. I think ideally Twitter should be about creating small communities. “Muted by default” discourages that in favor of passive consumption of big accounts.

A better free tier IMO would be something like 50 follows, limited posts per day, and maybe you can only reply to accounts you follow. That way you can still join a community, but your ability to harass others and spam is limited.

One of my professors would say “It doesn’t matter if you got there by consulting the entrails of birds, so long as the proof works in the end.”
One of the most misleading things about learning mathematics is that you are seeing the *output* of a great deal of trial, error, sweat, and tears, presented as if it’s obvious, or at best a product of cleverness.

My first thought was “curse”, and apparently I’m not the only one.

I’m into this in theory, but people keep scheduling meetings or wanting PR reviews during the time that I would take off.
I really wish people would stop judging how others choose to live their lives. I work evenings. Sounds terrible. But that's also because I take afternoons off. (Which others can also make sound terrible.) ↵

Now that we’re all remote, I’m not sure how to clearly lead by example when people can’t easily see the difference between overwork and alternative hours.

But yeah, I’ve struggled with this in remote work. In the past I was a big advocate for leaders setting a good example by not working at weird hours. It was easy to accidentally set the implicit expectation of constant availability, esp. for junior engineers eager to impress.
I would genuinely take a 25% pay cut if it meant I never had to write another self-assessment for the rest of my career.
