@AngelicaOung @RnaudBertrand @BonnieGlaser @RossFeingold @PaulHuangReport @jose Let me be a conspiracy nut for a bit, and say that this feels like a "Zelensky 2.0" operation coming out of Langley. You see the same sort of information warfare stuff.
NO, Puma Shen does not leads Taipei by 17%, if you believe it I have a Taipei 101 tower to sell you. This "poll" is as flawed as the lowest quality TW polls can get. It has a sample of DPP party ID +16% in Taipei, a city KMT won by 4% in 2024.🤷‍♂️ Thread🧵

And then the last week, you do something that makes Chiang looks bad. Move Shen within 2 points and then we find two days before the elections, that Chiang was friends with Epstein. The problem with US information strategy is that people are so insistent on being "winners"

that they go overboard. If you have a badly done poll that shows Shen 2 to 3 points of Chiang, then people will buy that. 17 points, at that point people start laughing at the poll, and you've blow the bandwagon.

Cheng has never really organized a large campaign. She has organized protests, and we can see if those skills are useful.

Basically, if Chiang can't save himself and loses Taipei, then he was a flawed candidate to begin with, and it would have been a mistake to throw good money after bad, and we have one less Presidential candidate. To be electable as President, Chiang has to prove he can

add to the party not take away from it. By contrast of it turns out that DPP loses by expected margins, then people will be very upset at Lai.

So each candidate is nominated by an ad-hoc process which means that figuring out how the candidate is nominated is part of the messiness. Also if you are wondering where Cheng Li-Wun is, I would imagine that she is in KMT party headquarters looking over spreadsheets and

calling people up. (Hey, Jaw Shau-Kong, Cheng here, can you let me know what you are doing?)

The example of duelling polls was when the KMT and TPP failed to get a joint ticket. Each of the parties got their pollsters and (surprises) each party had polls showed their candidate was ahead.

The thing that made this nasty was that we were talking about 1-5 points. If one candidate was 10 points ahead then we wouldn't need a poll.

The other thing is that green supporters seem to be hoping that the "ocean current" effect is real, and that maybe one poll overstated it. Blue supporters are asking the question well if they get this number wrong, then maybe everything is wrong.

From most of us that aren't in the beltway, it looks like China spent the 2010's preparing for the crisis that the world now faces.

I was wondering when people will start to use the term "World War 3". Or something else. I am pretty certain that the term that my grandkids use to call the current era of history isn't what I am calling them.
We are at the beginning of the destabilisation of Europe. I warned ya’ll: don’t stick around if you can avoid it. The storm is not coming - it’s almost here. ⛈️🌊🌪️🌩️🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺

@AngelicaOung @RossFeingold Funny thing about the Taipei elections. The latest polls from the DPP have Puma Shen leading Chiang Wan-An by double digits. When I read the polls, I started laughing. Look if you have Puma lead Chiang by 3 percent, I start getting

double digits you start wondering about the polls. Basically for Chiang to be losing by double digits, he would have to start losing the support not only of swing candidates, but of deep blue people. At that point you'd personally know people that were switching.

Okay maybe I am wrong and will regret it the day after election day, but *someone* is going to be disappointed. The other thing is that the same thing happened with the legislative recalls.
