'Last Night In Soho' turns 5 this week. I'll post some behind the scenes photos in the next few days. But enjoy this breakdown of the 'Cafe De Paris' dance sequence with Anya Taylor Joy, Thomasin McKenzie and Matt Smith, choreographed by the great Jennifer White. Too many amazing people worked on this film with me, and there are sequences (like this) that I'm insanely proud of. Shoutouts to Marcus Rowland for this incredible set, the genius DOP Chung-Hoon Chung, our amazing VFX supervisor Tom Proctor and, in this scene especially, the magnificent camera operator Chris Bain. Enjoy and more soon! @lastnightinsohomovie @focusfeatures @FictionComplete @workingtitlefilms

I had fun in Paris finding locations Polanski used while filming The Tenant:
* Arc de Triomphe (Trelkovsky’s car accident)
* Tuileries garden (Trelkovsky slaps the brat🤭)
* Notre Dame Cathedral (the funeral).
And in the Pigalle district, did I notice a Trelkovsky at his window?
Beautiful day for a trip to Stamford. I’m giving a lecture on two of my favorite topics - ‘Journalism & the Movies’

Peter Falk, Ben Gazzara and John Cassavetes in "Husbands," 1970. Ebert said that the film "shows an important director not merely failing, but not even understanding why," but Gene Siskel of the "Chicago Tribune" included the film on his list of top 10 films of the year.

Gene Hackman turned down the title role in The RoyalTenenbaums — a role that had been, according to Wes Anderson, “written for him against his wishes" — several times before giving in to Anderson's pestering and agreeing to do the film.
Hackman was leery of the fact that Anderson had written the part specifically with him in mind, because he said he felt Anderson must then want something specific from his performance, which he saw as limiting — i.e. that he wouldn't be free to create his own interpretation of Royal.
He also admitted that Royal's relationship with his children in the film made him look back at when his own three children were young, and question whether he himself had been insensitive and made poor decisions as a father. According to Hackman, he discussed the matter with his kids and his agent, and finally decided to accept the role.
As it turned out, it would be an iconic role for him, and landed him the Golden Globe award as Best Actor.
