Ahh the last salon in my series "Reading Econ Classics Together" - we started with Adam Smith and ended with Elinor Ostrom.
The perfect arc!
So grateful for the incredible attendees 🙏🏻
My next series is starting on November 7: interintellect.com/series/go…
America through movies!
Elinor Ostrom Nobel lecture -- coming on @interintellect_ on Saturday!

S. (spouse) and S. (college sophomore kid) are in Wisconsin closing the family cottage; I'm home hiding from the heat and taking care of our little dog. Actually, I did go for a run this morning and did pull-ups at Esprit Park before it got too hot.
I got a copy of the PASCAL book I was working through when I was 10, and Claude has set me up with the ucsd-psystem-vm P-System emulator, so I can cosplay working on a Terak 8510/a on my MacBook, complete with the classic "clunk" sounds of its 8" disk drive.

A great pleasure to host one of the most brilliant people I know, @Liv_Boeree, at one of the @interintellect_ salons tonight ✨ We talked about the moral crime of factory farming: sentience and coordination problems, pets and the very non-mysterious suffering of animals, wilful ignorance and mislabelling, ethical eating and technological innovation, EA and AI, @dwarkesh_sp and Congress, the power of the individual to raise awareness in a democracy, and how people will look back on these times in the far future and see our customs as barbaric.
What an incredible guest — and intellectual treat. Thank you, Liv! Video soon…

We're selling our house in San Francisco! @jenalden and I raised our son Milo there 21 years. If you know us, you've probably been to a party there. We love that house so much. Open house this weekend if you're interested! Spread the word! 1120persia.com/
I love that place! 💖
We are selling our beautiful home of 20+ years. We put so much love into it, we raised our son here, its walls are full of love and good energy. If you know anyone in the market for a lovely place in SF, send them our way! 1120persia.com

Me contemplating going to the hardware store: "O, woe is me, who must endure the Sisyphean task of journeying to the hardware store! How can I avoid this bitter toil?" Me at the hardware store: "I want to live here now."

Excellent online @interintellect_ salon from the Reading Econ Classics Together series: Hayek!
We talked about decentralized knowledge and intuitions, crypto and AI, surveillance and central planning, Tocqueville and capitalism, talent and selfishness -- Smith, Marx, and more!

Today's episode of my members only @interintellect_ salon series "Reading Economics Together: From Smith to Ostrom in 5 Texts" -- on Keynes. Excellent!
We talked about post-work society and purpose, the Great Depression and effects of collective trauma on collective cognition, AI, automation and efficiency, the value of polyhistors and contrarians, @tferriss's 4 hour workweek, the effects of private life, the arts and real-world information on good theories, @tylercowen's GOAT book, status, society and @clarabcollier's new @asteriskmgzn essay, and much more.
Video soon.
Working on my personal project, trying to use just a little bit of that 10x Codex usage I got for not getting to go to the 5.5 party. Thanks, @OpenAI, btw.
I have 5.5-xhigh agents actively working on two projects now . . . and I'm down to 81% remaining usage for the current 5-hour period.

A mission I have with @interintellect_ is to help people read the big texts.
Works of literature, politics, religion, economics that define our world, our systems.
One of my series is "Reading Economics Together: From Smith to Ostrom in 5 Texts" -- just hosted episode 2: Marx.
