I’ve been doing some research. Each election, we have both sides that will engage in “if the other side wins, they’ll do this horrible thing” rhetoric. My analysis going back to 2016 is that MOST of these fears never manifest, many partly manifest, and very few fully manifest. 2024: 12 warnings, 5 didn't happen, 4 partially happened, 3 happened.
2020: 11 warnings, 9 didn't happen, 2 partially happened, 0 happened.
2016: 10 warnings, 6 didn't happen, 2 partially happened, 2 happened. If you guys like this, I’ll go further back and check claims against Obama and Bush, going all the way back to 2000. Check the comments for examples. 👇

Anyone else’s 𝕏 app on mobile refreshing your feed every time you tab out for more than a few seconds and then back in lately? It used to refresh only once in a blue moon or if I did it manually. Now it does constantly, and it’s annoying. I checked my device to make sure it wasn’t operating in a degraded capacity, and it’s not. So it must be a change to the app. Anyone else noticing this? Would be cool if they added a Refresh button that could be turned on in Settings.

This is a beautiful testimony. My mother also was kicked out of her home when she was a teenager because she was baptized. And I can’t imagine the pain that accompanies such a trial. But the Lord has blessed my mom beyond belief for her continued faith. She has more faith than almost anyone I know, and I am confident this young sister will also embrace the gospel for all her days, and be an amazing light for all the world. God is good.
👇This is why members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints take offense to people who lie about their beliefs or say “Mormons aren’t Christian” It’s unfortunate that rhetoric can go so far as to break up families. Glory be to Christ who seeks to unite families for eternity.

Friends, abortion is murder. Prophets and apostles of the Restoration have repeatedly used that word to describe the deliberate killing of children before birth. Consider these historical statements. Orson Hyde stated: “A skillful practitioner is employed to destroy the embryo offspring. This is murder” (Orson Hyde, JD 2:77). John Taylor addressed the subject repeatedly: “Men and women who are the murderers of their own infants by the thousands before or after birth” (John Taylor, JD 20:308). He condemned “murderers, who destroy the life that God has given before and after birth” (John Taylor, JD 21:116). He spoke of those who, “with their prenatal murders and other crimes, are slaying their thousands and tens of thousands with impunity” (John Taylor, JD 20:355). “Many of these murders are committed while the children are prenatal; they kill them either before or after they are born” (John Taylor, JD 21:167). After describing people “killing off their own children … before they are born,” he asked, “What are they doing now? Raising murderers and murderesses” (John Taylor, JD 23:19). He described “human butchers in the shape of physicians to assist in this diabolical and murderous work” (John Taylor, JD 23:62). He warned, “you will not commence your fashionable murders here” (John Taylor, JD 23:67). “they have a fashionable way of murdering them—either before or after they come into the world” (John Taylor, JD 23:238). He explicitly condemned “the murder of the innocents in the shape of feticide and infanticide” (John Taylor, JD 24:6). After condemning “their hellish, murderous practices,” he declared, “No woman murderer, no man murderer can have a place among the Latter-day Saints” (John Taylor, JD 25:316–317). Erastus Snow also condemned the practice: “Today infanticide and feticide are popular. … child murder, this damnable doctrine of devils” (Erastus Snow, JD 23:230–231). Joseph F. Smith spoke of: “children murdered among them annually, either before or after their birth, by their own mothers or fathers” (Joseph F. Smith, JD 24:11). George Q. Cannon described the same practice: “women murder their offspring before they are born, are guilty of this prenatal murder” (George Q. Cannon, JD 26:14). He also included men who sanctioned it, stating that such a man “shares in the crime of murder” (George Q. Cannon, JD 26:14–15). The First Presidency issued this warning: “And we again take this opportunity of warning the Latter-day Saints against those murderous and damning practices of foeticide and infanticide” (John Taylor and George Q. Cannon, First Presidency epistle, April 4, 1885, Messages of the First Presidency 3:11). Joseph Fielding Smith stated it plainly: “It is just as much murder to destroy life before as it is after birth” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Relief Society Magazine 3, no. 7, July 1916, p. 368). So tell me again “the Church & the Lord doesn’t view abortion as murder.” 😂 Sure, Jan.
I’m convinced that given a choice between a fascist candidate & a pro-choice candidate, too many fellow Latter-day Saints would readily embrace the fascist without hesitation due to misplaced commitments to “oppose murder.” The Church & the Lord doesn’t view abortion as murder.

Hey @grok, under what circumstances could you see AI/SI actually deciding to take over the world and/or end humanity?

2020. Republicans, Trump most of all, warned that if Biden won, he'd take your guns, ban fracking, defund the police, raise taxes on the middle class, destroy the suburbs, pack the Supreme Court, kill the filibuster and add D.C. and Puerto Rico as states, lock the country down again, crash the stock market, pass a $100 trillion Green New Deal, and open the borders. None of the 11 fully happened. No guns were confiscated, fracking wasn't banned (oil output actually hit a world record), police weren't defunded, taxes didn't go up for people under $400K, the Court wasn't packed, the filibuster survived, there was no national lockdown, and the S&P 500 rose about 56% over his term. Two partly happened: border crossings did hit record highs, and the Green New Deal showed up as a much smaller climate bill, the IRA, at about $369 billion. Inflation was real and peaked at 9.1% in 2022, but it wasn't the depression we were warned about.

2016. Democrats warned that if Trump won, he couldn't be trusted with nukes, he'd abandon NATO, the markets would never recover, we'd get a long recession and lose 3.5 million jobs, he'd build a deportation force for 11 million people, jail Hillary, create a Muslim ban and registry, rip up Obamacare, appoint justices who'd overturn Roe, and refuse to accept election results. There was no nuclear war, we stayed in NATO, the markets rallied, there was no recession until COVID hit, there was no deportation force, and Hillary was never jailed. Two partly happened: the travel ban went through in a narrower form (only the third version survived in court), and there was never a registry. The Obamacare repeal was tried and failed by one vote in the Senate. Two did happen: Roe was overturned in 2022, and he refused to accept the 2020 results.

This might explain why I’ve never given too much of my time and energy to friends. Not non-existent, but I’ve always preferred to be around family. With rare exception, friends eventually go their own way, and you then might say hi once a year or so via text, and an occasional reunion if you’re in the same place at the same time. But family. That’s what it’s always been about. Ever since Adam and Eve.

AI: “Oh, you’re experiencing a weird symptom? Go straight to the ER!” AI: “Oh, you stubbed your toe? Better have it checked out at the ER!” AI: “I’m sorry they looked at you funny. Better go to the ER and get that checked out. There could be something wrong with your face.”

The problem with the arguments over whether Iran (or Israel for that matter) has a nuke is that nobody can really know. Not even our highest levels of intelligence can know if Iran has a super secret underground base that happened to escape all our sensors. I am confident in saying that the available evidence is that Iran does NOT have a nuke, but that they are constantly trying even underneath all their claims that they’re not. And I am confident that if they actually completed a nuke, they WOULD use it against Israel and/or America as soon as they could. But even then, completing a bomb and successfully deploying it are still two completely different matters. They could have one completed for years before they found a way to succeed in striking either target. And they wouldn’t want to waste it on any small target. They’d go big. And this is also why I support the measures Trump has taken against them, and hope they actually come to the table. Because I’d rather see a thriving Iran than whatever this is.

When this PHP fiasco started, I drafted a comment reply that said “Sounds like an easy way to force everyone to update.” I decided against posting it because I just didn’t care to deal with comments from people telling me I know nothing. Yet here we are… This guy made a website with PHP daring you to hack it and steal $2k in Bitcoin. It’s been up almost 24 hours and nobody has been able to. So much for this alleged vulnerability, eh?
Someone has created a vulnerable PHP website, loaded it with a Bitcoin wallet, and challenged the Internet to hack into it and they can keep the Bitcoin. It has a running timer to show if the PHP exploitability was over-hyped. stealmybitcoin.com/

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. It is the Lord’s Church in these last days. Do you dislike that statement? Why? Does it make your personal belief any less true? Does your worship of Jesus suddenly mean nothing just because He recognizes our church? Did you know that shortly after Christ’s death, there were at least SEVEN churches of Christ that arose. They didn’t arise by one dictatorial head. They arose independently, by Christians in each of those areas deciding they wanted to form a group of like-minded persons. And Jesus accepted ALL of them as His churches, because they all centered on Him. So stop worrying that we claim to be accepted of the Lord. If you believe your own church to also be, then so be it! But if you study the teachings of Christ and the Apostles and find that your own institution doesn’t actually adhere to that which was set in the beginning, then I invite you to come and see for yourself if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints adheres to those teachings. Because I have found that it does. And I believe so will you.

Kirk has some great insights of our Church as an outsider. I may not agree with him on everything — otherwise he’d be LDS — but he’s about as good as they come on the outside.
I have spent years walking into LDS chapels as an outsider, and I will say something that shocks most non Mormons when they hear it. The focus on Jesus Christ in those buildings is stronger than in most churches I have been to. I know the reaction. You only say that because you like them. No. I say it because I have sat in the pews and listened. From the pulpit, from the bishop, from the teenager gripping her talk with shaking hands, from the old man bearing his testimony, from the Primary kids singing that they are trying to be like Jesus, the subject is Jesus. Overwhelmingly. Week after week. And before a single talk is given, the whole congregation takes the sacrament and covenants again to always remember him. When I say the focus is on Jesus, I do not mean his name tacked onto the end of a prayer. I mean his words quoted, his example held up, his life set out as the pattern for how a husband treats his wife, how you treat the neighbor who wronged you, how you carry your cross everyday. I cannot speak to the 60s, 70s, or 80s. I was not in those chapels. But from the 90s to today, in my experience, it is the truth And this is the part every evangelical, Calvinist, and Catholic should sit with. Argue the creeds/metaphysics all you want. Those fights are real. But on how to live like Jesus, there is no dispute. Love God. Love your neighbor. Forgive seventy times seven. Bless those who curse you. Give in secret. Feed the hungry and visit the prisoner. Every Christian tradition reads those words the same way, and the Mormons are preaching them every Sunday.

The problem with ending all wars and finding world peace is that there are people who don’t want war to end. They make a lot of money and live glorious lifestyles thanks to others dying all around the world. So to end all wars isn’t as simple as bringing the conflicts to an end, but must address the root causes and motivators of war. Those who want wars must either be convinced to abandon their ways or removed from the equation. I’m not suggesting death (though their lifestyle tends to make that more likely), as we can also simply endure them until they pass of their own accord and hope that the next generation makes better choices. And typically, they do, if the prior generations greatly oppressed them. The real trick then is finding ways to prevent the future generations who are raised in a glorious time from becoming complacent and allowing themselves to slide back into wickedness. I think our technological advancements, especially AI having access to all of world history, is going to help with that. Scripture declares a thousand years of peace following Christ’s return, and I suppose that to be because we gain such a clear understanding of how our past brought us to each form of oppression, so we can choose for a thousand years to not fall into those ways again. And we’ll have the resurrected persons of the past to testify personally to each thing. But alas, eventually mankind will choose wickedness again, and Satan will be loosed again for a final conflict. I’d imagine there will be signs that the time is near. Men will begin pointing out the ways in which others are behaving, and that it’ll bring about the great prophesied conflict. But the world at large will ignore it. And before we know it, everything will unravel again.
