It’s been fun but I think the party is over here, I just find it too noisy / toxic. Find me on the butterfly app bsky.app/profile/jonbretman.…

Today we’re opening up Keel with our easiest ever way to get started: a brand new AI-powered backend generator we’re calling Keel Studio. Keel is the all-in-one, fully functioning backend, complete with database, APIs, auth, permissions, observability and internal tools. All deployed on serverless infrastructure, ready to scale with you. We’ve heard from our users that they’d like an easier way to get started with Keel. With Keel Studio you get a deployed production grade and fully customisable backend in minutes all from your browser. Use AI to quickly get started and get your APIs deployed.

If someone asks you “what’s your backend?” and your answer is “Postgres”, I’m sorry to have to tell you but you have no idea what a backend is.

If I wasn’t doing my own thing I’d be lining up to work with these guys. Mostly just to have @mattvagni cook me dinner.
Day 2 @plainsupport offsite. At the end of every year, @mattvagni and I cook dinner for the whole team. This time, everyone came over a bit earlier, wrote thank you cards and wrapped presents for all our customers, and drank mulled wine. I love this team ❤️ So excited for 2024.

Once, while at his place for dinner, he made a Nutella pizza for desert. Just as I was thinking “this is pretty decadent” he put about half a block of butter of each one. Never change @mattvagni

“Shopify reported that their 75 CI minutes ESLint run…” Sorry is that a typo… an hour and fifteen minutes to run a linter. Madness.

Had a great afternoon writing regex. This is not sarcasm, I actually enjoyed myself.

Once your culture becomes dominated by risk mitigation it’s over. High trust and low process attracts great people who create value. You can imagine what the opposite attracts.
here's how company culture dies without much effort imagine you have a team of three- there's little process and it's a high trust environment mistakes are made but everyone has high levels of ownership so they clean it up and learn the lesson now imagine you grow to 12 people - still pretty small but you have subteams that form one day, someone on the team accidentally runs a sql query in production they meant for dev and deletes things this disrupts everyone's work and whoever is most capable has to stop what they're doing to fix it it wouldn't feel right to do nothing and pretend like it never happened so people suggest limiting prod access to fewer people of course that makes sense, every other company does it so you implement it this tiny change has big impacts - everything is made a bit more bureaucratic: - whenever there's a change, you have to ask your manager to assist you - if you're curious about how users are using the app, you have to ask someone to run a query - if there's a bug you waste time seeing if you can fix it without prod access before bothering someone these little frictions make it so people do all of these things less, feel less ownership, and foster a sense of "not my problem" and there's no solution once you're at this point - it's why people always long for "the magic of the early days" and it's all because of one mistake one person made one time

This trips me up every single time. Probably more so now because I use switch in Go a lot and the behaviour is different. And of course by different I mean sensible.
