If you're a coach with an interest in speed then check out the latest article on Sportsmith. I break down how we at the @BristolBears use sprint analysis software from Forceteck to help our rugby players run faster and safer.

I have coached in Australia, France & the UK...nothing prepared me for the scale of French rugby. Its 4th division pulls bigger crowds than the 2nd tier in England, Australia or NZ. Incredible depth & serious money at the top. shorturl.at/ytvOb

How the elite in rugby prepare for game day in 🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿📍England The @BristolBears use their off-field work to create specific forces, both vertically and horizontally And their 5 1080 Sprint 2’s fit into the process by both bridging the gap and driving competition, everything needed in a MD-2 training session Shoutout to @jonobward (First Team Athletic Performance Coach) and the rest of the staff for setting the standard in rugby 👊

Sprint profiling over 20m gives us a good snapshot of how players accelerate, and anecdotally we know that 20m often isn’t enough to get players to their top speed, except maybe for the tight five (props and second rowers), who generally have lower top end speed

Contrary to popular belief, even props and second rowers, who I assumed might hit top speed earlier, still need more than 20m to get into their max velocity zone (>90%).

My takeaway from this is if the goal is to expose players to max speed, we need to be thinking about sprint distances beyond 30m. Short 20m sprints are great for acceleration, but they aren’t enough if you're chasing max speed exposure across all positions. Tight five included!

In my new article on @SimpliFaster I explain how I use to 1080 Sprints speed limit setting to overload Force &/or Power, depending on the sprint phase I am targetting. Plus I share some practical examples of how I use it within my program of pro rugby players!
“The benefit of training athletes at specific velocities is to strategically overload the kinetic qualities of force & power.” 📈 My guy @jonobward goes deep on how & why to use speed limit functions on @1080motion. Data/Protocols from his 🏉 athletes⤵️ simplifaster.com/articles/pr…

"To be fast, you need to hit 3.0m/s or 6.7mph on your 1st step. If the athlete has not reached that threshold, their body is not moving fast enough to get the center of mass forward enough to get the 1st step under or behind the mass." 📈 New @korfist ⤵️ simplifaster.com/articles/ze…

The budgets of second division French clubs tells us that rugby is going strong here in 🇫🇷 Most second div clubs have more $ than Super Rugby and NRL clubs back in Aus 🇦🇺 Brive for example has a budget of 26 million AUD, with Aurillac (the smallest) with 8.1 million AUD. – at Ansouis, France
