A very moving story in today's @Telegraph.
A mother-to-be (of twins), found out she had breast cancer the day before she went into labour.
In the middle of moving house, she'd put off buying life and critical illness cover. She doesn't want others to make the same mistake.

Average mortgage rates hit 6pc.
Will be lots of fear that these rates will climb ever higher.
(But if you're coming off a fixed-rate, worth having a look at trackers... And there's still some sub-5pc deals if you're quick.)

Playing YouTube shorts aloud on a tube is one thing.
Playing them aloud at almost full volume in a Royal London ward waiting room at 8:30pm when everyone there has been there all day is another level.
No one will ask him to stop. He’s watching boxing videos - might be why.
I've been being a bit existential this week (forgive me) and wondering about what makes a mansion a mansion.
This is so that I can help Mr Healey with his rumoured changes to the £2m threshold for the snappily named High Value Council Tax Surcharge.
To start: not a mansion

We spend lots of time talking about how stamp duty is bad for the property market.
But we think less about how difficult its administration is. Made very clear by this story (we fought HMRC, and we won!)

For @Telegraph I had a lovely chat with an old econ tutor of mine (and all-round work expert) @danielsusskind about what AI could mean for jobs.
Can wholeheartedly recommend his new book, What Should My Children Do?

Jeremy Corbyn is selling his North London home for around £700,000 – nearly twice what he paid for it.
The former Labour leader bought the three-bedroom Finsbury Park townhouse for £363,000 in 2007.

Got a spare £700k and want to live in Corbyn's house?
(There's already an offer in, but it would be a bargain - he originally listed it for £800,000 in March).

Stirring the pot a little in this morning's @Telegraph: "Leasehold is broken. Abolishing it is not the answer"
There's no doubt leaseholders have been taken advantage of. But are we at risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater?

This is a bit harsh given that most student newspapers are run by students, who will be on vacation right now anyway.
Did The Times really need to have a pop here?
Slow death of Right To Buy continues - but tenants are rushing to take advantage before more Labour changes.
More than 14k sold at discount last year.
Discounts have already been slashed, and eligibility changes are expected for later this year.

Thought provoking report out from @WeAreBrightBlue this morning, which I wrote up for @Telegraph.
Should the self-employed get sick leave/UC/pensions? And should we all pay higher income tax to fund it?
(Should we scrap employer NICs too...?)

By me for @Telegraph, a light-hearted take on Jason Arday's claims
"I remember my mother’s first words as I woke up from my second brain operation in the space of 10 days. 'Harry, you need to get out of bed to prepare for your PhD viva,' she said, encouragingly.
And then, two weeks later (having also had a stroke post-surgery) there I was opining to the dons at Liverpool John Moores on “Peer-Mentoring among Student Teachers’ [sic] to Inform Reflective Practice within the Context of Action Research”.
Except no, because I am not Jason Arday. I am the weakling who laid about in bed after my brain tumour diagnosis and the two appointments on the operating table that quickly followed."

All this talk of a wealth tax/that millionaires should pay more.
They already can. And... don't (as my story from March shows)?
There are lots of changes our tax system needs. But what Lineker and others want is just more fiddling while Rome burns.

There is a disincentive to work and progress and develop to earn more. Put bluntly, this is how our tax system works. Via @Telegraph @journomadeleine
