British manufacturing lost 20% of its capacity between 1979 and 1983, due to her aggressive monetarist policies. Steel and chemical plants, energy sector, automotive, electronics, not just coal mines. Unemployment went from 1.5m to 3.2m in 4 years. The oil windfall paid for it.
