After a 6 week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programs at USAID.
The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States.
In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programs we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department.
Thank you to DOGE and our hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform.

I KNOW A HERO WHEN I SEE ONE
The Washington Post names me along with @elonmusk as one of several businessmen who are using their “megaphones” to spread “narratives” about the assassination attempt on President Trump.
I’m not sure what “narratives” they’re referring to, but I know what I saw, and I know what the crowd in Butler witnessed live.
At it turns out, my father-in-law lives in Pennsylvania and he was at the rally on Saturday. When the shots rang out and Trump went down, he said pandemonium broke out around him. Everyone feared the worst.
But then Trump rose. Covered in his own blood, resisting the secret service’s efforts to whisk him away to safety, Trump raised his fist defiantly, and the crowd could see him say: “Fight. Fight. Fight.”
Immediately the fear of the crowd dissipated, the chaotic uncertainty lifted, and it was replaced with steely resolve. The crowd responded back as one: “USA, USA, USA!”
This is not a “narrative.” It is the truth. Trump stood defiant in the face of an assassin’s bullet. There is no way to fake courage like that.
It was more important for Trump to let the crowd know that he was unbowed and unbroken than to be taken to safety.
Donald Trump has already been in the fight of his life for months, as vindictive Democrats seek to imprison him, but on this day he came within inches of losing it. He has risked everything for this country.
It is now up to us, the American people, to show him that he does not stand alone. Let us reject the lies, the hoaxes, the hate and the division that the media has spread about this brave man, and support his resounding victory in November.

When I was just starting out in venture, a very experienced VC gave me the this advice:
"Our best investments are the ones that don't squarely fit our model. They're too high priced, or low ownership, or off thesis, or maybe the founder doesn't reference well. The fact that we were willing to break our rules to invest was a signal that it was a special company. We put rules in place not to follow them, but to know when something is an extreme outlier"
I think about that all the time.

Frank Slootman really is the business version of a Navy Seal.
And when a CEOs retirement prompts a $17 billion loss in market cap, it's worth understanding.
I reread his original 2018 Amp It Up essay & these were my favorite passages:

The internet of AI agents will need crypto
Kevin Kelly (founder of Wired) wrote in 1997 that computers themselves weren't that big of a deal. They just made us slightly faster at spreadsheets and writing.
But the connections between computers, the Internet, is the profound thing that led to the explosion of new technology and opportunity, changing the world completely.
Similarly, I think that while current AI systems feel magical in how they augment our abilities to create and analyze, the connections between our AI agents are where we'll see the world truly change.
It's impossible to imagine the full implications, but it's going to crazier than the internet.
The 'agentnet' (need a better name) will be a 24/7 synchronous ballet of collaboration comprised of interconnected AI systems that are able to think critically, make decisions, be creative, and likely specialize in their own lanes, learning from and teaching each other.
Product agent fit
Regarding crypto, at the risk of being a guy with a hammer seeing a shiny nail, it does seem likely that the agentnet contains clear PMF for many of crypto's inventions.
These are the tools that AI agents will use when they collaborate with the billions (or trillions?) of other AIs:
➡️Programmable internet-native money = cryptocurrency
➡️Programmable internet-native property rights = NFTs
➡️Programmable internet-native organizational systems = DAOs
Not to mention cryptography, ZKPs, distributed compute and data storage, etc.
Creators of the AI agents won't want to limit their abilities by using centralized services, which can be shut down at any time.
Btw I don't think this requires anything near AGI to be 🤯

Respectfully, @jeffiel hyped the acceleration of digitization thru covid, yet said nothing on re-opening of businesses, getting kids back in school, or the spike in crime/deteriorating streets. But it's mean to discuss how SF failed. He's now at the anger phase of grief.
