Recap of October 13, 2026 City Council Meeting Capital Project Planning - Council received an update on our capital project planning, which includes roads, parks, and facilities. The executive summary is that we are going to have to delay the remodeling of the San Gabriel Rec Center, delay the Blue Hole project, and delay the road bond we had anticipated proposing in 2027. We simply don’t have the debt capacity to do any of these projects at this time, and we refuse to to take on debt that we can’t afford. The reason our capacity is limited is due to slowed growth and restraints imposed by the state legislature. In regards to the legislature, we have been sounding the alarm that recent legislation would impact our ability to provide the services our community wants us to provide. Blue Hole and the Rec Center were bond initiatives that passed by a large majority, and the road bond package we were contemplating is desperately needed, because we have so many roads that are at or over capacity. We will continue to look for ways to get projects done, including spending what money we have on designing projects and having them shovel-ready when the construction funds become available.

This is excellent and true.
