I checked in on a friend the other day to see how he was doing. He’s not Israeli, but like many Jewish Americans he has close friends & family who are near the attacks or being called up to fight. He’s worried & mourning & also a little demoralized. He said something powerful.
If you want to cancel your @Assurant renter insurance, call 18004328612. The number on their website tries to sell you some marketing promo and repeated ignored when I said "I am not interested"

This subtle (often not so subtle) pressure is incredibly powerful on social media too. But I’d argue it’s not a left thing but an extremes of the spectrum think. Confirmation bias is a powerful drug.
Oh man as a former Vox writer with relatively few left-wing opinions I really feel this paragraph. slowboring.com/p/what-i-lear…

Breaking: @appledaily_hk announced that they will shut down after midnight on Wednesday and the paper on Thursday will be their final edition. End of an era in #HongKong and an uncertain future for press freedom in the city.

We have revoked China Global Television Network’s (CGTN) licence to broadcast in the UK, after our investigation concluded that the licence was wrongfully held by Star China Media Ltd. (SCML).
Read here for more information: ofcom.in/cgtnrevoked

ALT Ofcom spokesperson: “Our investigation showed that the licence for China Global Television Network is held by an entity which has no editorial control over its programmes. We are unable to approve the application to transfer the licence to China Global Television Network Corporation because it is ultimately controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, which is not permitted under UK broadcasting law. We’ve provided CGTN numerous opportunities to come into compliance, but it has not done so. We now consider it appropriate to withdraw the licence for CGTN to broadcast in the UK.” You can read our full decision on the Ofcom website.

The Chinese government is using Twitter on the one hand to amplify the state's message, and on the other hand to identify critics of that message for detention:
