I think we've gotten far too comfortable treating cruelty as some kind of personality trait. why is your response to seeing something you dislike the desire to humiliate the person who made it? why does your dislike of something need to become somebody else's punishment?
sometimes i wish it wasn't illegal to tell fic writers their shit sucks

I think some people are a little too comfortable talking about human beings like they're IKEA chairs.
I heard a woman talk about her half siblings from affairs as “the physical manifestation of my mother’s pain”

Lrt as much as i advocate for people using taboo kinks/fiction to cope and process trauma i think it's also important to remember that some of us are just freaks and that's also okay as long as it never leaves fiction

I wonder if it's confusing for new authors to know what advice to take when things like this are so ubiquitous. It can be a struggle to determine what is worth giving weight and what is worth dismissing. Although if you saw it on twitter, probably just dismiss it lol
fic writers PLEASE use the multiple other words for ‘says’ oh my god

Every pro censorship regarding sexual material on this platform goes like this: - "They should censor [fic sex thing], people will do [real sex thing]" - "But what about [fic violence thing] ? It might motivate people into [real violence thing]" - "No that's totally different"

Personally, I'd rather come off as a turbo-pervert than be a fascist and endorse censorship of any kind. And it's not just about porn or nsfw artwork/books/fanfics - once it hits those, it *always* targets history and science next. Look at the history and see the pattern.
i do think it's concerning that the government is seeking to legislate against consenting adults viewing film of consenting adults engaging in legal activity. but the problem is saying that makes you sound like a turbo-pervert

you deserve a good life even if you never change the world. even if your story never inspires a single stranger. even if your greatest accomplishment is making it through the day. your humanity is not something you have to earn by being exceptional.

I saw of video of Ethan Hawke lamenting how he's not reading half as much as he once did. This is a much deeper and darker pattern. Some of the most avid readers I know, lifelong readers, have basically stopped. They hate it and can't even explain it, the fire's just gone out

Reading isn’t about storing facts; it’s about altering the lens. You might forget 90% of the pages, but the mind that closed the book will never perceive the world the same way as the one that opened it.

one of the biggest things reading does for you is teach you how much you lack, how dumb you are. the worst people online don’t read and so they are constantly convinced they are at the highest echelon of thought

mike flanagan they will never make me hate you. the love is what makes horror so good
every day on here people talk about mike flanagan like he’s the devil from the bible on a quest to destroy all horror who hates the genre because of his penchant for broad sentimentality. i have terrible news for you about the most successful horror author of all time.

I fucking love people who become more themselves with age. Stranger taste. Clearer boundaries. Louder laugh. Less interest in impressing random people. Watching somebody slowly stop auditioning for the world is fucking beautiful.

I died on the front lines. Em dashes, my beloveds.
First they came for the em dashes, and I did not speak out. Then they came for “not X, but Y,” and I did not speak out. Then they came for the rule of three, and still I did not speak out. Now they’re coming for curly quotation marks. This is actually where I draw the line.
