“Violence is not necessary to destroy a civilization. Each civilization dies from
indifference toward the unique values which created it.”
Swimming against the current is not idiotic if the waters are racing toward a waterfall.
Nicolás Gómez Dávila
In an age in which the media broadcast countless pieces of foolishness, the educated man is defined not by what he knows, but by what he doesn't know.

Truth is extreme (it contains no lie, no softening).
Expertise in any domain requires apprehension of ever-ascending information predicated on an understanding of the level immediately lower.
One can only communicate one level above the receiver’s apprehension, and reception is dependent on ability (base intellect) and willingness (persuasion).
Willingness is rooted in Value Structures.
To climb the epistemic ladder to expertise, many previous Value Structures were abandoned and a new one formed.
The new Value Structure reflects the expert’s proximity to Truth and is therefore always extreme.
This is why true experts find it almost impossible to communicate to non-experts, and why persuasion (read: Education) CANNOT BE BASED IN EXPERTISE.
Persuasion must pass the Value Structure filter.
New Rorschach test just dropped re: student loans.
We have incentivized useless and even harmful behavior by giving easy access to the predatory university system whose entire scam is charging more for degrees that produce net drains on the actual productive members of society. Time to stop wallet-raping students and start actually educating them.

@MironchuckNOW Um. I went back to listen to this again today for different reasons. This episode, around this time stamp for the next 15 minutes or so, is another example of why folks should take @TFL1728 seriously. After this week, especially.
Nolan’s sin: If Xenia is twisted to the point the Trojan Horse is a violation, the moral fabric of the Odyssey (and the Iliad!) disintegrates.

By far the funniest moment in Homer’s Odyssey is when Circe says, “Shall we have sex?” and Odysseus says, “You just turned all my men into pigs. You have the GALL to think I would sleep with you? Of course I will. Absolutely. But don’t do any weird spells”
Trump made a joke and got more people to read CS Lewis’s masterpiece That Hideous Strength than every Lewis fan like me banging that drum for decades.

All eras of peace were achieved through successful wars.
“Peace is the buzzing of summer insects between long winters.”
God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.
