Five months after President Trump told Iranians that “HELP IS ON THE WAY,” many say that help never came. At least 26 people have been executed in connection with the January protests, rights groups say. Read our latest article @nytimes 👇🏼 #Iran  nytimes.com/2026/08/07/us/po…

I stand by my reporting, but not the headline, which I didn't write nor was I involved in, and which I agree should not have come out like this.
Hi @nabihbulos, do you stand by your report & headline? Did you not see the civilians killed, or hear what medics and first responders have consistently reported? Why agree to put your byline under a headline that contradicts your own reporting & peddles Israel’s narrative? So what gives? In case you missed it, here is a sample of your article’s “Hezbollah targets.”

Border Patrol agents have been roving from city to city over the last 15 months, far from their home bases in California and elsewhere along the U.S.-Mexico border, engaged in an unprecedented mass deportation campaign.  A collaboration w/ @CalMatters Evident and @bellingcat

Excellent piece by @KimGhattas on what U.S. Israel’s end game in this war and for the region
The new Middle East, as seen by Netanyahu, is coming into view. "Summarising Israeli government’s position, Citrinowicz said: “If we can have a coup, great. If we can have people on the streets, great. If we can have a civil war, great. Israel couldn’t care less about the future . . . [or] the stability of Iran." ft.com/content/dd070ee7-7021…

Well worth a listen!
Very grateful to have appeared on @gideonrachman's @FT podcast to discuss the war between US/Israel and Iran and its massive consequences. 30+ mins of sober discussion and analysis, without bombast or advocacy to help listeners think through a complex matter. Not that frequent these days given the appeal of endless TV-online panels mixing analysis, advocacy and propaganda which obscur and provoke rather than enlighten and frame. ft.com/content/7318edcf-9c5b…

NEW for @newlinesmag: I wrote about how we verify strikes such as the one on the elementary school in Minab, Iran. The death toll from this strike is now at least 150. I touched on the collaborative nature of open-source work, and how researchers like @ChrisOsieck, @NemoAnno (and many more) coming together to do this reporting is vital in times like this: newlinesmag.com/running-note…

You could launch a full-up newspaper from the 300 people laid off by the Washington Post 3 hours ago. Instantly. Business. Sports. Metro. Ukraine. China. AI & tech. They'd start writing this afternoon! A 300-person newsroom would cost about $80 million a year (running a little lean). Just saying. I hear there are some billionaires out there looking for places to invest.

Today, @thenation has suspended all coverage in an initiative called "A Day for Gaza." All the work shared on the website today will come directly from The Strip. "In sharing “A Day for Gaza,” we hope to breach the silence that has descended around Gaza, and to do so by offering a microphone to some of the 2 million people whose stories demand to be told. We also want to extend an invitation—and a challenge—to our colleagues across the media industry to recommit to telling the story of Gaza. We owe its people—and the hundreds of our fellow journalists who have given their lives to bring us the truth from Gaza—nothing less." You can read the full Editorial Statement here, as well as all the published pieces on the website. thenation.com/article/world/…

The information space around #Syria has collapsed into a toxic pot of vitriol, wild misinformation and... some facts. Large numbers of people are tragically dead, but the circumstances & context are far more complex than is being widely conveyed. A 🧵:

Honestly just go look at LATimes and get facts on the fires. Actual, usable facts. Hundreds of journalists have been reporting (+ evacuating/surviving), publishing stories by the minute, verifying facts. Do you know what that means? Type this in a browser: latimes.com/
