Study after study report the same protection of most vulnerable road users = decrease injuries & fatalities
Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via @StreetsblogUSA usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/…

72% of business on Toronto street come from active transportation users.
Half of business owners on this #Toronto street estimated that more than 25% of their customers arrived by car. In fact, it was 4%. And the % for those who walked or cycled? 72%. Retailers routinely overestimate the # of “car customers.” Via @carltonreid forbes.com/sites/carltonreid…

What if, instead of victim blaming the child struck, @RCMPNB educated engineers about what they see that informs how & why roads are not safe for children, and why safety infra interventions are essential on school routes. So many examples.

This crossing guard brings her own countermeasures to her job by narrowing the road to slow drivers down. Clear evidence how narrow streets = safer streets.

Our letter of appreciation for @summersidePEI beginning the work on a Complete Streets document and also looking into the "asphalt vs concrete" sidewalk issue. We look forward to following the development as it nears completion. safesummerside.ca/docs/Aspha…

There are almost 200 "School Streets" (Rue aux écoles) in #Paris. Cars are banned to allow students to get to school safely using active transport—by bicycles or on foot. This is the one on Ave. de Bouvines (before, it was a thoroughfare, with parking for cars.) 🧵

Happy Birthday De Beauvoir. These bollards were installed 50 years ago to the day. #LTNs are not a new concept. May these bollards stay for eternity and all those who pass through them see that one simple change can benefit so many people #hackney Streets are for people

Note: @RoadSafetyBC sets the default speed limit in cities at 50km/h and makes it almost impossible for safety-minded municipalities to change it. The chances of survival while walking if you’re hit at 50km/h: 20%. At 30km/h, the limit many municipalities want, it’s 90%.
In a crash going 55km/hr a person not wearing a seatbelt has the same experience as falling from a 3 storey building. Buckle up! #BuckleUpBC
