Beautiful South Africans 🇿🇦, don’t fold. This is your home. We have no intentions of becoming refugees anywhere. We must continue to mobilize on all fronts until we get a government that will do what is in the interests of South African citizens. This government isn’t for us.

Of course he's not - but the headline is condescending and becoming quite typical of The Not-Common-Sense which I started out enjoying but now don't. Headlines must reflect content. (Is The Not-Common Sense a member of the Press Council?).

Over the last 2 years, DA and it's supporters have shown us WHY it's dangerous for ActionSA to work with the DA.
We have seen their true colours. The disrespect shown towards @HermanMashaba
@nasiphim
@ME_Beaumont
@AtholT
and others, have given us a clear picture of the kind of people we are dealing with. The level of arrogance and verbal abuse towards a party that aligns on many policies.
I find it entertaining that people like @RobertHersov and @MathewCohenSA are now deliberating after the disrespect Mathew has shown our leader.
It's regrettable that a small dynamic party was not treated with basic respect.

The ANC,has destroyed this country. She was making noise here when Nasiphi was enforcing bylaws.
I can never accept that is a servant of the people, they all thrive in lawlessness & chaos.

Let me be clear, ActionSA's choices in coalitions:
✅️ Will be based on the best interests of residents of municipalities and the wishes of our constituents.
❌️ Won't be based on the patronising and arrogant insults of people and organisations that hate ActionSA.

South Afrcans have lost faith in politicians. Let's have a media people can trust, not this misinformation carried in this article.
Very unfortunate media reporting.

I pray ActionSA forms a coalition with the ANC and/or EFF across all Gauteng Metros to keep the DA out and replicate what theyve been doing in Tshwane. The DA has always wanted to destroy ActionSA when they partnered with them.

This growth did not happen by chance.
I decided to become a professional fisherman, using fishing to support my family. Living next to a dam and ocean, I felt the need to focus my fishing career in the ocean instead of a dam.
I literally lived in the ocean, daily catching fish and going back to shore to deliver it to the market and back to the ocean.
I am glad our plans were rewarded.

If we wanted the DA we would’ve voted for it, they must stop talking nonsense. No one must blackmail ActionSA into any coalition, we expect ActionSA to work with whomever brings the best proposal. They can keep their advise to themselves

@Action4SA gained an incredible amount of votes in Tshwane while they were in coalition with the ANC and EFF, so the continuation of the coalition with them holding the mayorship is doing wonders for them. @HermanMashaba is nobody's garden boy and won't get dictated to by Bigots.

Why do you guys want Herman to bend for you? Worse, you are dismissing & labelling him angry when he is literally telling you guys why he doesn't really trust that hag and her party. You might as well go into coalition with the ANC if you want a "yes, ma'am" kind of partnership.

Nonsense! Mashaba was clear that Zille and some DA Caucus leaders were hellbent on opposing his pro poor service delivery agenda and believed that race is irrelevant to any discussion about equality and poverty eradication. These facts cannot be washed away in your criticism.

I remember when ActionSA dumped the DA coalition in Tshwane and formed a new one with the ANC the same people were writing similar obituaries for ActionSA.
They don't even know how the party turned around its fortunes.

Blumenthal is entitled to advocate for a DA–ActionSA coalition. But ActionSA is an independent party with its own mandate and non-negotiables. Coalition negotiations must be between equals — not an expectation that ActionSA should simply submit to the DA.

Who is Dr Ivor Blunenth to advise anyone? It’s incredible that those who muster everything they can against ActionSA before the elections now expect ActionSA to do their bidding. Winning votes and wards is not easy and now that we’ve done so these people want to tell us what to do with these hard won votes. Why does the @commonsense and Blumenthal
not tell the DA what to do??

I have some thoughts.
I cannot stand this narrative. It grinds my tits. Herman Mashaba, the angry black refusing to submit.
All he has said is that he does not trust the DA given how many times the party has stabbed him and ActionSA in the back. That is a perfectly rational reaction on both a personal and political level. From his perspective, as I understand it, he sees it as foolhardy, and irresponsible, to trust the DA when it has proven untrustworthy to him and his party. Why would he enter a coalition with a partner he does not trust to keep it stable, when instability is part of why Joburg in particular collapsed? The unfairness. The racial troping. The gaslighting. I f’ing hate it.
Personally? I think the DA has matured as a coalition partner. The GNU experience as a junior partner taught some humility. Will it still treat its coalition partners horribly? I don’t know. I’d err on cautious hope. Will it still backstab? I don’t know. I’d err on cautious hope. Would I trust it? Well, trust is a very personal thing isn’t it? It is a tally of events and experiences. Different parties have had different experiences with it. Different people have had different experiences with it. Tough to call. We are all human. So. I don’t know.
And I think you forget politicians are humans and bleed and feel the same way you do. It would be irrational not to expect human emotion.
You also put too much hope in selflessness in politics, a vocation that is, by nature, driven by self-interest. Adjust your expectations and spare yourself disappintment. This. Is. Politics.
Dr Ivor Blumenthal warns that Herman Mashaba’s hostility towards the DA threatens ActionSA’s future and the prospects of stable coalition government in Gauteng’s metros.

Five hung metros. One majority. Zero comfort.
The IEC numbers tell you who can sit at the table. The politics tells you who gets to stay there.
JOHANNESBURG - 270 seats. Majority: 136.
DA 98. ANC 53. ActionSA 44.
DA + ActionSA = 142. Four-seat cushion.
That is not a coalition. That is a hostage situation with a whips' office.
One floor-crossing, one resignation, one sick day - and the council flips. The ANC waits in the wings. Not because it has the numbers. Because instability is the only strategy left that still works.
TSHWANE 214 seats. Majority: 108.
DA 74. ActionSA 47. ANC 43.
ActionSA is not kingmaker here. It is the only king.
The ANC cannot govern without them. The DA cannot govern without them. Every portfolio, every deputy mayor, every committee chair goes through ActionSA's hands first.
The question is not whether ActionSA gets leverage. It is whether it can spend the leverage without collapsing the thing it just won.
EKURHULENI 224 seats. Majority: 113.
DA 71. ANC 48. ActionSA 42.
DA + ActionSA = 113.
Exactly on the line. No cushion. No margin. No forgiveness.
This is the most fragile coalition in the country. If it forms, it does so on borrowed time. If it fails, the ANC defaults through smaller parties not because the ANC has the votes, but because everyone else runs out of options first.
ETHEKWINI 223 seats. Majority: 112.
MK 90. DA 54. ANC 38.
MK needs 22. The ANC has 38. The math is obvious. The politics is ugly.
MK was born as a split from the ANC. Governing with the parent party in its own backyard is not alliance. It is surrender dressed as pragmatism.
The alternative MK + DA at 144 is mathematically dominant and politically absurd. Unless the numbers force it. And the numbers always force things eventually.
NELSON MANDELA BAY 120 seats. Majority: 61.
DA 53.
Eight seats. That is all that stands between majority rule and another round of scrambling.
EFF. ACDP. Whoever has the seats. This one gets resolved first because it is the easiest math in the country.
MANGAUNG 101 seats. Majority: 51.
ANC 36. DA 33.
Fifteen seats either way. Thirty-two seats floating in the hands of smaller parties.
This is where the ANC's national dominance means nothing. The local machine either holds or it doesn't. And if it doesn't, Mangaung goes into administration. Not coalition. Not agreement. Provincial intervention.
The quiet part.
The ANC and DA have never formed a municipal coalition together. Not in 2024's 142 councils. Not in the 33 that followed.
The GNU exists at national level. The municipal level stays silent.
That silence is the whole story.
Because the numbers tell you who can sit at the table. The politics tells you who gets to stay there. And if history is any guide, none of them do.
Khustaz retweeted
Ok. Can we then agree that your position is not based on “democratic principles” but your personal feelings?
Cause if you argue that denying Helen Zille the mayoral chains violates the substantive intent of our democracy, then you should argue the same for any party. Cause democratic principles must be consistent regardless of “personal feelings”. Am I wrong?
Replying to @TheRealClementM
I have no interest in the MKP or the EFF. I am convinced that they are destructive for South Africa. They will enable corruption, enhance state malfunction and result in societal collapse. Any party that enters into alliance with either does not have SA’s interest at heart.
