Imagine emerging from the shadows a week before an election, delivering someone else’s carefully scripted rhetoric Your fee? $400K minimum The applause sounds, the crowd laps up every word And you walk off the stage with $ millions for selling a message you didn’t even write

In a world fighting for our attention, libraries remain wonderfully democratic The radical beside the traditional, the absurd beside the profound No algorithm/Ai deciding what we encounter, no demand that we agree Just ideas patiently waiting to be found, minds free to wander

I love books and libraries It's where different and conflicting ideas, often absurd and controversial, polar opposites even, sit side by side, vying for our most precious commodities Our time and attention

Everyone wishes you had no words Give an unexpressed thought a try Imagine trying to play or coach for Manchester United with Mark Goldbridge monetising hatred against you Cc @ManUtd
What a shit show! I actually have no other words.

Andy Burnham promising cheaper marmalade Love that idea I’ll put the heating on to celebrate

The measure of a free society is how confidently we protect the right to disagree with each other I believe Andy Burnham et al - working symbiotically with Whitehall - will oversee UK transition to a place where protected groups are immune from scrutiny, disagreement & critique
If I enjoy the rights/freedoms of speech and expression in the UK while using those very freedoms to demand the silencing of those whose views differ from mine, I am not edgy, I am subversive The measure of a free society is how confidently I - we -protect the right to disagree

I meet far too many people who openly advocate silencing/violence against those whose political views differ from their own and/or don't affirm their pov They forget that protecting freedom of expression means protecting ours and others right to disagree without fear of violence

I'll have a fireside chat with you and listen to you tell me the moon is made of cheese Yes, present your argument, persuade me But don't force me to affirm your point of view Don't threaten me with violence or harm if I don't affirm/believe what you do Bc that's terrorism

Cardinal Richelieu famously said 'Show me six lines written by the most honest man in the world, and I will find enough therein to hang him' Lavrentiy Beria, head of Joseph Stalin’s secret police in the old Soviet Union, declared 'Show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime'

Be fascinating to know which accounts on @X are manufactured, created or amplified by UK Government or Whitehall To know which accounts are pretending to be ordinary but in fact professionally driven by a political party, Whitehall or their agencies to nudge/influence millions

I always find it weird that people think violence against those they disagree with is OK Not just silencing or violence, not just arrest or imprisonment, but death Disagreeing with someone re their politics is not a justification for violence against them, what are we becoming?

When masked violent groups riot in the street, cause Β£billions in damage, burn historic buildings, brick police vehicles, loot shops, destroy everything in their path, call for an end to democracy, justify electoral fraud if it stops political opponents All to stop 'fascism'

Who I listen to Who I talk to What I read Who I respond to These are my (our) choices to make So what’s the alternative? The UK Government decide? Whitehall decide what I hear, read or who I can talk to? That is State overreach/oppression/suppression Cc @SpeechUnion

Mad how business owners can take money out of a profitable football club while loading it with Β£billions debt They rinse the profits, borrow more to fund players and infrastructure, the debt stays with the club, not owners The owners continue to rinse profits, load it with debt

Mad how those owners can sell the football club Β£billions in debt Maybe build a new stadium using more debt which makes the brand more profitable The new owner takes on the brand, new stadium, history and debt Previous owners walk away Β£billions richer Is this @ManUtd ^
