Real software also has a "journey" There has to be a logical thread you can follow through the app to get work done, and one has to set up the next Doesn't have to be the only one, and ideally you shoul be able to deviate But its more than a collection of screens
Real Software is roughly: not an experiment meant for other people to use true regardless of how it's created @mattpocockuk talks about real engineering which is what i'm thinking about for software generally "craft" v "slop"

Norway's fund works because Norwegians can look at $2.4trn of Nvidia and Palantir shares for twenty years and not touch it the people most upset Britain never built one would have forced it to dump Palantir after the first demo and spent the rest on nurses in the first recession

How do you end up getting a job as the BBC’s cyber correspondent without having heard of PHP?

This is like a political correspondent saying they’d never heard of proportional representation. Or a health correspondent admitting they hadn’t previously encountered insulin. Genuinely basic stuff.

People need to stop blaming themselves for utterly broken hiring processes.
Last week was a real blow to my self confidence. Getting through 6 rounds of interviews to be told I didn't demonstrate enough technical depth was a real gut punch, especially as I have 9 years of deep technical experience. However I hold my hands up, and say -

One of the long overdue impacts of AI on the UK economy (I hope) is that we start promoting actual builders into positions of responsibility rather than genial bullshitters.

In all fairness to Amol Rajan, I’d rather scratch my own eyes out than watch a two hour interview with Gareth Southgate
Replying to @Tom_Nicholas
But, it’s hard to get across the extent to which everyone in the more “legacy” side of the news/entertainment industry has been talking about the launch of the Amol Rajan Connection for months, for it to then be getting mere hundreds of views. The first episode got just 17k.

The UK being a serviced based economy makes it more vulnerable to AI than most. The government needs to urgently wake up and immediately formulate a strategy to manage the incoming impact. It’s unbelievable to me this hardly features in political discourse.

Precisely. City could take a season in the Championship and with their owners be absolutely fine. United are a season outside the Champions League away from more job cuts.
🚨 Ohara & Cundy On Man City 👀 🗣"When you're looking at what Utd's owners are doing to THAT club.. I'd rather have #ManCity's owners 100%. They've changed their football club, made it better, more global and signed best players. And Sheikh Mansour spent his own money" 👏

Only partly true Michael. City were the bigger club pre-war & on many occasions had the biggest or 2nd biggest average attendance in the country. City also won a European Trophy before Juventus, who were traditionally in Torino's shadow until the FIAT money.
Except Juventus were an historically big club with a storied record at domestic and European level. City, with a couple of exceptional title winning seasons, were rather a mediocre club for 100 years living mainly in the shadow of United. Fun, yes, occasionally. Important rarely

If you're switching away from @Railway, don't go with any of the vendors using Railway's breach to poach customers right now. You want a high-integrity vendor, not one virtue signaling on one of the worst cybersecurity days in years just to grow a little. Any mature provider knows this can happen to anyone, so they'd never risk the "come over here, we're safe" look. They also know most real customers can't switch overnight. And I say this as a pretty frustrated Railway customer who's looking at alternatives, too.

This might legitimately be the biggest impact of agents, DevOps without a DevOps team, AWS without the fear of a misconfig costing you the farm.
if you got fucked by Railway I highly recommend just using AWS and having Opus 5.5 handle dev ops with Terraform/OpenTofu it seems intimidating at first but it’s actually incredibly easy now you can even have your agent handle this via TDD first so it’s guaranteed secure!

People don’t necessarily think of @OpenAI as a cyber security company but I think over the next 6 months or so that will change. The php vuln found today is important and I’m proud of our contribution to discovering it. There is much much more we can/have/will do to ensure we keep the Internet safe. Watch this space!
