Yes, happy to explain. I don’t think it’s wise to let your opinion of an entire immigration policy be dictated by outlier cases, tragic cases, or sad stories. I also support the second amendment even when there are tragic cases of gun violence.
I support ICE and I believe mass deportations are necessary. I believe in law and order and I believe in justice. So does Samuel Sey. I don’t fault ICE for doing its job. I also believe in helping friends when you can, and also believe that mercy is sometimes appropriate. I know Samuel—he’s a good man of integrity. He has made good faith effort to file the right paperwork and comply with the law. He didn’t deceive or purposefully break the law. He would make an excellent American citizen. I hope he can become one someday.
There are many other similar cases, I’m sure. It doesn’t change my opinion. All we can do is support justice as well as we can, and extend mercy where appropriate to the best of our ability. You might find this inconsistent, but I don’t. It’s just part of living in a messy world.

۲۲ اکتبر ۲۰۲۲، برلین به یکی از ماندگارترین تصویرهای همبستگی ایرانیان و همراهانشان در سراسر جهان تبدیل شد؛ بزرگ‌ترین تظاهرات ایرانیان خارج از کشور تا آن روز، برای حمایت از مردم ایران و رساندن صدای آن‌ها به جهان.
برلین فقط محل گردهمایی نبود؛ تریبونی شد برای صداهایی که سال‌ها به حاشیه رانده شده بودند: زنان، اتنیک‌ها، دادخواهان، جامعه کوییر و جنبش‌های مدنی که در دل «زن، زندگی، آزادی» دست در دست هم دادند و به نیروی محرکه این جنبش بزرگ تبدیل شدند.
با وجود تفاوت دیدگاه‌های سیاسی، آن روز خواسته‌ای مشترک ما را کنار هم آورد: حمایت از مردم ایران و "نه به جمهوری اسلامی". این همبستگی، در کنار سازماندهی و تلاش جمعی، تصویری ماندگار در حافظه جمعی ایرانیان ساخت؛ تصویری که نشان داد گردهم آمدن و ساختن حرکت‌هایی بزرگ‌تر، ممکن است.
چهار سال گذشته است، اما صدای آن روز هنوز زنده است؛ صدای مردمی که از مرزها عبور کرد تا به گوش جهان برسد.
"زن، زندگی، آزادی"، صدایی که خاموش نشد.

جمهوری اسلامی برای یکصد روز واقعا کنترل همه چیز رو از دست داده بود. خیابان، دانشگاه، مدارس، خارج از کشور، داخل کشور، بلوچستان و کردستان خودشون جدا جدا موتور محرک بودند، همه عرصه های عمومی در داخل و خارج رو باخته بود. جنگ روایت رو برده بودیم. چند موتوره بودن این جنبش بود که سرکوبش رو مشکل می‌کرد، کاش بیاموزیم و به یاد بیاریم که چه شد و از خارج از کشور چه خیانتی شد به این جنبش. هیچ وقت اینقدر خوار و ذلیل ندیده بودم جمهوری اسلامی رو.

Last night, my wife had to take the subway late in the evening. I worried about her safety in a way I wouldn’t have in a pre-Chow era. We also had a break-in at our house a few months ago.
I don't follow municipal politics closely, but I know this much: a city can’t be great when its residents worry about their personal safety. By that measure, Chow has failed. I’ll be voting for @BradMBradford.
