An emotional Timmy Chang reflects on the passing of one of his mentors, former #HawaiiFB quarterback and head coach June Jones.
Chang played five seasons for Jones and set the NCAA passing record under him. Jones also gave Chang his start in collegiate coaching as a GA at SMU.
I am looking forward to the Lions - Minnesota Vikings game this weekend. According to PFF, Jared Goff has been the best quarterback in the NFL this season against the blitz. @chadmillman @SimonHunterNFL @kthomasj

Churchill could have shortened WW2 by years if he had just “done a deal” with Hitler. George Washington could have done a deal to end the American Revolution. Zelenskyy is in good company.

Have seen lots of reaction to the ESPN series on Nick Saban. A lot of history, reported then and subsequently (wrote a book on this, in fact), has been forgotten:
Saban left MSU in 1999 for two reasons, both tied to then-President Peter McPherson. McPherson had welched on a $150,000 (not $100,000) raise committed to Saban. The stock market in the late '90s boomed and McPherson did not believe he could sell that raise to the MSU Board of Trustees. Saban then was making less than Tom Izzo.
That violation of pure financial principle set the stage for Saban at least listening to another offer, even though he and Terry through their coaching stops had always most loved East Lansing, had wanted to return there, and most definitely wanted to stay in November, 1999.
Another factor was McPherson's indifference to Saban's coaching. Even though the president had not been to a college football game between his college days and his arrival as MSU president, he "didn't believe Saban was a good second-half coach." True appraisal.
What might have been considered by the president, even if he had been on firm ground -- and he certainly wasn't -- is that in 1998 the Spartans had only 71 players on scholarship within a roster's 85-man limit. That was due to attrition inherited from George Perles' NCAA probation sentence. Small wonder some second-half leads in 1998 had washed away.
By 1999, Saban had a full scholarship roster, and a 10-2 record.
But the tensions and intolerances had grown too severe, and Saban was at least open to LSU's offer. Even after Terry visited Baton Rouge and told him it was a "diamond in the rough" they were going to stick in East Lansing. A long night of talking and not sleeping preceded a 5:30 a.m. phone call from McPherson who, in Saban's view, was "belligerent" and insisted Saban wasn't going to put MSU over a barrel.
The Sabans decided at that moment to leave for Baton Rouge.
In section 106 tonight, a 45-minute drive from home, was a man wearing his lucky Jake Bauers shirt. Stu Bauers has worn his son’s t-shirt the last four Brewers games. They are 4-0. It hasn’t been washed yet and at this rate it may never be.

Here's my Mike Ditka story:
I interviewed him for a book I wrote on the 85 Bears. It came out in 2010 for the 25-year anniversary.
Ditka also had a book coming out on the 85 Bears and we were interviewed together by Jeremy Schaap on ESPN Radio.
At the end of the interview, Schaap suggested that his listeners should read both books. Ditka jumped in and said, "This is my third or fourth book already. You should just buy Steve's."
He was truly one of a kind. RIP Coach Ditka.

Happy Birthday to Rev. Jesse Jackson. I was his global communications director and spokesman in 1997 and 1998. It was a wonderful experience that impacts my life to this day. Miss you Rev.

Honored to have President Obama standing with us in this fight.
This campaign is about working people taking their power back — and building a government that works for them.
Now let’s finish the job. Get out and vote.

11 years sober! One of the best decisions I ever made on this day in 2015. Grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way to regain control and wake up every day a better version of myself as a father, husband, and friend. For anyone out there battling, just know you’re not alone and please speak up. There is a light at the end of the tunnel 🙏🏾

They’ll be no more remarkable performance in college football today than the one put forth by Yale QB Dante Reno. One day after his father passed away, he played for Yale and threw four touchdown passes and for 298 yards. Yale beat Merrimack 41-24. Bravo.

Everyone is talking about the men who rushed the cockpit on flydubai 1073. They earned it. But the attack was caught first by Tali Manes, who took her six-year-old to the bathroom at the front of the plane, heard fighting from the cockpit, and didn't tell herself it was nothing.
She got a flight attendant's attention, saw the blood when the door opened, and screamed. Her husband Tzvika, Yaniv Hayun and Asaf Rajuan went in only after that. Herzog thanked her by name and recommended her for the presidential medal alongside the other four.
She should be as well known as they are.
