Nothing highlights the fiscal failure of this government more starkly than the plight of Poundland. The chain's 600 stores and 12,000 workers sit on the verge of collapse, not because its customers have walked away - Poundland's sales grew by 6.7% in September - but because of this government's unaffordable tax rises, which makes it impossible to run a business that works on slim profit margins to keep its prices down for its customers. How ironic that a government preaching about helping the least well-off is forcing a company out of business that does just that.

🙌 Harry gave a mention to the late Kenny Jackett in his Ballon d'Or acceptance speech last night.

Sad that Kenny Jackett passed, he should have heard his name be mentioned and recognised by a Ballon D'or winner.

🚨Wes Streeting only talked about how the UK needs to prepare for food shortages and cyber attacks, because I asked him when the government was going to start its national conversation on defence during a question and answer session at the opening of a gun hall.
If the defence secretary hadn’t given such a meaningful reply (thank you @wesstreeting), then no government minister would have spoken out publicly about this topic on the day that the Cabinet Office finally published its new advice on being ready for emergencies.
This long-awaited “Be Ready” moment was meant to be a really important signal - launching a three year campaign to shift the whole of our society to a footing that is more resilient to any kind of shock.
Instead, no government minister had been scheduled to speak publicly today specifically to launch this vital piece of work.
It was just going to be a website update and a written statement to Parliament.
This does not send the signal that getting the UK ready for any potential disaster - up to and including war - is a top priority for our new prime minister…

“I’m really enjoying it.”
“I’ve loved it ever since I’ve arrived here. Good manager, good players, good to be here.”
“Wolves is a massive club, I wasn’t frightened to go down to the Championship.”
“He [Peixoto] is very good, he’s very demanding, with me coming in as well I’m sure he will demand a lot from me which I can handle, I’ll help out as much as I can.”
“I believe that we can get promoted, I’m not saying that in an arrogant way, I just believe in my teammates.”
