If you expensed $16,000 in hotels at your job, you’d be fired. In Doug Ford’s government, you get a raise.

Hmmm..🤔
Last summer Ford's Minister resigned in disgrace after the NDP revealed $16,000 taxpayer dollars spent on Toronto hotels (he lives in Toronto) and $100,000 on steak, lobster and high-end restaurants paid for by Conservative donors and taxpayer subsidies. Today Ford promotes him to Parliamentary Assistant of Education. Is this the person who should be in charge of the education of 2 million kids in Ontario? #onpoli

Nurses fired. Students losing OSAP. Schools crumbling. People struggling to survive. But don't worry! Doug Ford just broke another record, spending $117 MILLION of your money on government ads telling you how he's "Protecting Ontario." Ford couldn't be more out of touch. #onpoli thetrillium.ca/news/governme…

No other MPP involved in the spending scandal faced any consequences. There’s no evidence the 2 who claimed to pay back their hotel expenses did. This govt took over 8 school boards claiming they can better manage their finances. Nope. They are allergic to accountability.#onted
NEW: Former tourism minister Stan Cho, who resigned from Premier Ford's cabinet after facing criticism for spending thousands on Toronto hotel rooms despite living in the city, has been named parliamentary assistant to Education Minister Paul Calandra. #onpoli

The end of municipal democracy in Ontario. Ford appoints his cronie as Chair of Muskoka Region. Ford has stripped the people of Muskoka, Peel, York, Halton, Niagara, Durham, Waterloo, and Simcoe County of the right to elect a Regional Council Chair in next week's election. Instead, he will appoint the Chairs—who will be able to force through decisions even if 2/3rds of elected Councillors vote against them. #onpoli
NEW: The Ford government is expected to name Conservative MP Scott Aitchison as Muskoka’s first “strong chair,” @readpolicorner has learned. Aitchison announced late last month that he would leave federal politics to “explore new opportunities.” policorner.ca/p/scoop-a-home…

Ontario’s education minister tells me he makes “no apologies” for spending taxpayer dollars on government ads promoting his education agenda & plans to keep spending on campaigns — even though he doesn’t know how much they’ve cost so far or what they’ll cost in the future. He also says he doesn’t know how much his appointed school supervisors have billed school boards. Estimates recap here:

Trustees have been yelling this for years. Chronically underfunded and stressed school boards across the province. It's become a crisis situation since 2018... This gov does not want functioning public education. Their own $$$ supervisors can't square ⬜ the ⭕. #OntEd
Toronto Life just published a deep dive into what’s happening inside the TDSB under provincial supervision. The Ford government says the problem is overspending. But as Toronto Life reports, “most experts argue that the TDSB actually suffers from chronic underfunding.” And what has provincial supervision delivered? ✂️ Hundreds of administrative, teaching and support positions cut. 🚫 Cafeterias and outdoor education programs closed. ❌ Dedicated classes for students with special needs eliminated. Toronto Life describes the province’s approach as a “DOGE-style slash and burn.” This is one school board, but the story will sound familiar to teachers, education workers, students, and families across Ontario: fewer staff, fewer supports and fewer resources in schools already being asked to do more with less. Check out the full article at Toronto Life: bit.ly/4hn5cw0 We’ll be sharing more from this important investigation. #OSSTF #OntEd #OnPoli

Doug Ford promised his takeover would fix our schools. It didn't. Results haven't improved. Classrooms are in chaos. Teachers are leaving the profession. And locally elected trustees have been silenced. This was never about restoring order. It was about dismantling local democracy. #ONpoli
Last spring, Doug Ford’s government seized control of the TDSB, promising to rein in wasteful spending, improve test scores and restore order to public education. A year and a half later, teachers are angry, trustees are powerless and students are floundering torontolife.com/deep-dives/h…

Kinga Surma ducked questions on government ad spending in her first estimates as Treasury Board president. She was pressed specifically on Ministry of Education ads promoting the province’s “Back to Basics” education agenda — and what tangible public service benefit those ads provide. Surma said she couldn’t answer for other ministries, despite Treasury Board overseeing the province’s $51.9M Bulk Media Buy Program. Full story here: thetrillium.ca/insider-news/…

Ford is defying legal orders from the Information and Privacy Commissioner to release documents related to the "multi-billion dollar government fund that pushed grants to Conservative donors." In other provinces the Commissioner can take the government to court to force it to obey the law, but not in Ontario. Ford changed the law to hide his own phone records and now he's defying the Freedom of Information laws he didn't eliminate. "It’s a really boldly anti-democratic move." #onpoli ctvnews.ca/toronto/politics/…

ETFO, OECTA and CUPE-OSBCU have scheduled strike votes for November as contract talks with the Ford government remain stalled over a dispute about the bargaining rules themselves.
