Federal auditors found Maine made at least $45.6 million in improper MaineCare payments in one program: autism support services for children.
Hospitals say MaineCare underpayments get shifted onto private premiums. Which means YOU pay twice! Taxes first, premiums second.

Two MaineCare oversight rules, and DHHS has until January 18 to answer:
1. On-site reviews of providers
2. Payments held in interest-bearing escrow during a fraud investigation, returned with interest if the provider is cleared
More than 1,750 Mainers signed the petitions, and 1,123 filed comments!

Maine homes paid 29.59 cents per kilowatt-hour in June 2026. The U.S. average: 18.34. Pennsylvania, the same month: 21.73.
Net Energy Billing is a major reason. The Public Advocate put 2025 costs at over $234 million.
And when a bill came up that would have made regulators weigh hydropower fairly, the Democrat majority in the legislature killed it. Senate 18-14. House 76-65. Dead.
We need to cap open-ended credits. Weigh reliable supply when we permit.
