Someone comes on a 2-wheeler EV, pulls out credit cards and swipes ₹9L for 3 iPhone Duos. 💳 But the real swagger is the lady stamping the bill. Doesn’t even blink at the amount. 3 items, done. 👍

Kab se keh rahe hai damaging consequences given the kind of service centric industries we depend on Reputational risk has serious economic costs Mass exporting construction workers to west asia was different from doing the same wrt white-col roles in the anglosphere
This should give migrants ex-US a pause. To fight race wars for IAs, we have burnt our social capital elsewhere. In the internet age there are no silos. One man's arrogance is associated broadly with his kind. A lot of blame is also with the online armies from India wasting their precious time fighting for IAs (because the Politicians' kids are IAs) and burning bridges of our goodwill

many people in that area come with bundles of cash :-)
I was shopping at Food Square, Santacruz West, and while at the billing counter I saw a lady submit a shopping cart of what looked like 1 week's worth of gourmet groceries. Loaves of bread, cheeses, fruits, veggies, berries, chocolates, etc. Her bill came to about Rs. 70,000. Got a glimpse into how the 0.01% Indians live.

The huge risks involved in getting in such services into the country are so evident now You can become dependant on them and they can be cut off at the whims of somone who doesn't like something It's good that the government is moving cautiously
Elon Musk said on Saturday that his company SpaceX had throttled the Starlink satellite internet service in Ukraine, disrupting operations that the country relies on to defend itself against Russia.

STT hike is super essential to discourage retail speculators away from handing over money to international hedge funds; it's about saving the currency
Wtf is this Modi Govt fully mental? Cutting LTCG and offsetting it by another hike in STT what are these stupid journalist doing, STT is the most Draconian Tax that only exists in India on Derivatives It is not even a genuine tax and one has to pay it irrespective of income generated and it also makes trading conditions worse by sucking liquidity STT is already at 0.05% on contract value in Futures. Bid ask spread on a round trip comes to 0.2%, how much more worse they want to make it?

Holy shit. Men, including Anthropic employees, were charged $800 each by a San Francisco matchmaker for a dating dinner with 15 women and just seven men. Women attended free. One man was in his 70s, according to a new SF Standard report. She also offers $1,000 'diagnostic dates': 30 minutes of mock dating followed by blunt feedback. Her clients include men from OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia and Google. AI allegiance is also becoming a dating dealbreaker. One woman calls working at OpenAI 'kind of a red flag' and considers Anthropic more ethical. An AI startup founder would date an OpenAI employee but hesitates over Anthropic because of its association with AI doomerism. At another dating show, men's ChatGPT histories and Reddit activity are examined onstage. One AI worker was playfully booed. And one founder says he's 'single until Series B' and wants a partner interested in living forever, exploring Mars and connecting their minds to AI.

For whatever it’s shortcomings, medicine as a career is still one of the best one out there atleast in india. Doctors tend to start late, but the rise in income is exponential, 3-5 years of practice and you’re way ahead of your peers. Only business can beat it.
This shit is not worth it in big 26

and how did these constables have so much money i think he scammed them knowing very well that they could potentially get into trouble if they reported having this much cash to lose
Delhi, India Meet Vikrant Tomar - 23 year old man - He posed as a rich businessman on Instagram - Targeted women constables in Delhi Police - He posted videos of luxury cars and an expensive lifestyle to impress them - He rented luxury cars - He promised marriage and asked women to give him money - One woman constable accused him of cheating her out of around Rs 24 lakh - Police suspect nearly 20 women constables from the same batch may have been targeted - His live-in partner is also a Delhi Police constable - He used information about her batchmates to identify other women - He is already facing 5 FIRs in Delhi in similar cheating cases - He was released on bail in June this year - Delhi Police have arrested him again, and further investigation is underway How did 20 well-educated women get lured by him? Did they get blinded by his money and rich lifestyle?

i actually don't mind docs earning in cash they go thru quite a bit of struggle for a very specialized skill set though of course - this is illegal, i'd rather have them be the ones with significantly lower tax slabs instead of farmers (just keep them exempt till 20-30L or so)
Every city, every town, every street has one thing in common. That small clinic where the doctor accepts only cash. I'm sure there are thousands, if not lakhs, of such doctors across India who operate entirely in cash and never report their actual income. It's just sad. The salaried middle class has taxes deducted before the salary even hits their bank account, while some cash-based businesses may continue to operate outside the tax net for years.

they are often MORE rigid 5 day week (no sat) + 4 months of break/yr + ultra liberal hostel rules + one sem away for internship/coop - huge W at iit/nit over most pvt places can strategically select light or flexible or allied branches & pick well targetted electives/projects
Replying to @VeritasErrant06
Sub-tier colleges can be pretty beneficial for high agency folks who dont wanna burn themselves out over an ultra competitive exam

what's generally lighter (and quite useful) is BSc/MSc do it in useful areas like stats or math along with an online program (or part-time job, business whatever) but pvt btech is often way more work (and not necessarily of the useful kind) more costly too fund a biz instead

Most people don't have a money problem. They have an enough problem. Every raise gets absorbed. Bigger flat, bigger car, bigger EMI. The goalpost moves the day you reach it. Nearly three decades in finance and I've watched people earning crores sleep worse than people earning lakhs. Income was never the variable. Their definition of enough was. Where I've landed, at 50 plus .. A quiet home is enough. Four or five people who'd answer your call at 2 a.m. is enough. Work you don't dread on a Sunday night is enough.
The world will keep selling you more. More upgrades. That's its job. Yours is to draw the line before the market draws it for you. Do that and something strange happens. You stop chasing. And you notice you already had more than you ever needed.

Think they failed to maximize their potential wrt medical tourism or even regular tourism of the premium kind These things can be changed within a couple of years unlike industrialization
Yields of “Investing in Education” without Industrialization Surplus elites without jobs or underemployed, living off rents and currency arb, or expats doing Regional Kanging from abroad
