“An estimated 5.13 million (3.63 to 6.32) excess deaths per year globally are attributable to ambient air pollution from fossil fuel use and therefore could potentially be avoided by phasing out fossil fuels”@bmj_latest @WHO bmj.com/content/383/bmj-2023…

"It has been estimated that 30% of medical care is of low value or wastes resources, and 10% is harmful. The health sector is estimated to account for more than 5% of greenhouse gas emissions in industrialised countries." bmj.com/content/382/bmj.p186…

We are heavily subsidising fossil fuels. So, we are subsidising what it kills us and take us to hospitals. Is 7 million premature deaths every year caused by air pollution not a strong enough argument to accelerate transition to clean sources of energy? @WHO @UNDESA #sdg7
Fossil fuel consumption subsidies rose to a record of over $1 trillion in 2022 amid the global energy crisis
Read more in this commentary from IEA’s Toru Muta & @musa_erd on why structural changes to bring down fossil fuel demand are needed ➡️ iea.li/3O1apea
So sad to see 🇨🇦 make headlines this way.

We cannot allow this to worsen. @Canada must stop #fossilfuel #subsidies & #ads now to save millions of lives at home & abroad.

Climate change is changing the environmental conditions people's health, wellbeing and survival depend on. Protecting our environment is critical to our health. 🌱❤️🩹
Action on climate change is a public health intervention.

This is beyond absurd, and it sums up the whole climate crisis in a nutshell.
Firstly, appointing the CEO of a major oil company to head COP28.
Secondly, the orchestrated and dishonest greenwashing of his image/credentials.

The true cost of climate change is felt in our hospitals and in our health. The health burden of polluting energy sources is now so high, that moving to cleaner and more sustainable choices for energy supply, transport and food systems effectively pays for itself.
Can #electriccars really #saveus from the ecological #crisis? 🤔 Many other solutions are better for our #health and for the planet. Great summary by Prof. Mark Niewenhuijsen from @ISGLOBALorg 🚗🚉

How healthier streets get built 👍🏽🌳
WATCH: Exact same space. Completely different place. Street transformation via illustration tech by @otucis. If only street transformations were this easy, but they aren’t nearly as hard as we make them.

Glad to see health impacts mentioned in #IPCC PR:
"heatwaves, heavier
rainfall & other weather extremes..increase risks for human health...people are dying from extreme heat...food & water insecurity is
expected to increase"

PRESS RELEASE
There are multiple, feasible and effective options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions & adapt to human-caused #climatechange available now, said scientists in the latest #IPCC #ClimateReport released today.

A scary kind of extraordinary 😅🙈
I asked #ChatGPT4 to explain #ClimateChange in the voice of #Shakespeare. The result is quite extraordinary:

"My country only emits 1% of global emissions. What it does makes no difference".
It's a common claim.
But add up the emissions of countries that emit less than 2% each (a 'negligible amount') – they emit more than China.
Imagine if they all decided to do nothing.

It’s REALLY important for everyone to understand the truth that designing your city for cars fails for everyone, including drivers. Designing a city with CHOICES in how to get around works better for everyone, including drivers.
Think we could we get to 1 million views of this?
👏🥳🎉
Reading through the final text of the #COP15 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. So happy to see explicit mention of human health and wellbeing. Huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard for this call for a healthy planet for healthy people.

Un peu de science. "Selon une recherche transversale portant sur 509 intersections montréalaises, une réduction de 30 % du volume de circulation serait associée à une réduction équivalente (-35 %) du nombre de piétons blessés à ces intersections."

It's not about whether you personally want to or need to drive. It’s about understanding the simple truth that in cities, if everyone tries to move by car, no one moves much at all. So the more of us that are enticed to walk, bike & take transit, the better it is for EVERYONE.
