Bainimarama and Qiliho escorted out. Qiliho tightly handled by Police who usher him in the right direction. Bainimarama behind him with Police officers following. Both are quickly ushered into the waiting van which speeds off. What a moment to witness! And I have witnessed many!

Heard the younger MPs within the party pushed against this name unsuccessfully. Such a terrible name!

Court docs reveal that Mei Lin, charged with smuggling 71.5 kg meth from PNG to Australia, had $10,000 sent to an account belonging to PNG's then-Chief Migration Officer to facilitate a codefendant's visa. CMO denies any knowledge. occrp.org/en/daily/18483-png…

To me, this always reads like those fishermen tales of the one that got away. Astounding amount of money earned but where does it all end up? Look at how we live in PNG. Struggle struggle.

I pointed out the need 2b mindful of the RFMF's recent history in the development of security partnerships recently at @USIP. To save face, Col. Naliva shud w/draw command in good faith w/ the ADF. Due diligence spectacularly lacking on Fiji side also - an embarrassment. #FijiPol
For over a decade, there have been multiple accusations that Fijian Colonel Naliva assaulted and tortured people in Fiji. Now the Chief of Defence has put him second in command of over 3,000 Australian soldiers. He is still there. Unbelievable.

It's great to be back in wonderful Papua New Guinea. My family and I have treasured memories about our times here. I can’t wait to be part again of this vibrant and enduring relationship with our closest neighbour and to re-connect with old friends and make new ones.

BREAKING Australia, Tuvalu sign new treaty which could reshape Australia’s ties with small Pacific island states. Citizens from Tuvalu can gradually resettle in Australia via a visa stream- 280 a year. Australia has effective veto power over Tuvalu’s security arrangements
Looks like it’s happening. Joint presser set up with flags of Tuvalu and Australia here in Rarotonga. We don’t know the details yet. More to come soon. This could be truly seismic

Vanuatu. The land of dissolution. Wait, did I mean disillusion? Today @NewsroomVbtc reporting that the Council of Ministers is recommending a dissolution of Parliament. During a State of Emergency. Yes, you heard that right! Meanwhile, for some provinces, people still need water.

Prime minister Albanese is now in the Cook Islands for the Pacific Islands Forum. My latest piece explains that he has a chance to repair a rift in relations with Pacific island nations that started there a quarter of a century ago. #BluePacific theconversation.com/26-years…

This has elevated quickly. Nauru has reportedly walked out of the Pacific Islands Forum plenary session
The Suva Agreement & Baron Waqa's candidacy to be the next Pacific Islands Forum secretary general are late inclusions on the PIF leaders retreat agenda. May just be housekeeping, or it could have ramifications for regional unity. Story on @AAPNewswire

Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown is a strong advocate of deep sea mining #DSM in his nation's EEZ. Forum leaders attending this week's #PIFLM52 in Rarotonga will each get a seabed nodule to take home as a momento, even though many want a DSM moratorium!
